Harry Forrester said he felt Brentford were going to hold on and beat Chelsea in their FA Cup with Budweiser match at Griffin Park as they were ahead inside the final ten minutes.
The Bees went ahead twice against the current FA Cup and UEFA Champions League holders in the Fourth Round tie at Griffin Park.
Marcello Trotta scored at the end of a first half that Brentford dominated and Harry scored from the penalty spot after Oscar has scored a superb equaliser.
But Fernando Torres levelled it up with seven minutes left and the teams will meet again in a Fourth Round Replay at Stamford Bridge on Sunday February 17.
“With seven or eight minutes to go, whatever it was, we felt we could hold on,” said Harry, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“But they are a World Class team, we all know that, they are the Champions of Europe for a reason.
“They have quality players and Fernando Torres and Oscar scored great goals.
“To get a draw against goals like that, you can’t really complain.
“We hoped they wouldn’t score through our sloppy play.
“You can’t do much about those goals.
“We gave a good account of ourselves today, every one of us.”
Harry described Brentford’s first half performance as “brilliant” and said the players knew they needed to get themselves ahead.
The first goal came when Harry’s shot was saved and Marcello Trotta fired home the re-bound.
Harry said Manager Uwe Rösler told the Brentford players at half time they were playing well but needed to be calmer in the final third.
“The first half was brilliant,” said Harry.
“We probably couldn’t quite believe it ourselves how well it was going.
“We had chances and we felt we needed to take one, which we did.
“The gaffer said at half time we were playing really well, doing all the right things, but we needed to be calm in front of goal.
“We did that more in the second half.”
Brentford were awarded a penalty when Tom Adeyemi was brought down by Chelsea goalkeeper Ross Turnbull.
Harry’s last spot kick, in an FA Cup Third Round Replay against Southend United, was saved but he stepped up again, even though it may not have been part of the original plan.
“I was told not to take it,” said Harry.
“Harlee Dean said the gaffer didn’t want me to take it as I missed one against Southend.
“But no-one was claiming it so I took it.
“Luckily it went in.”
Harry said Brentford’s players could be proud of their performance and the game at Stamford Bridge would be one everyone could enjoy.
“It shows how far we have come that we are disappointed with a draw against the European Champions,” said Harry.
“Every single one of us can be proud of how we played.
“The gaffer and the back room staff have worked out how we could stop them and we did it.
“They had very few chances, for a Premier League side, with the quality they had in the team.
“We worked our socks off.
“The game at Stamford Bridge will be another game for the fans to enjoy.
“We can all go with our heads held high.
“We said that we believe we can get something from any game.
“We can do the same there.”
