Harlee Dean looked back on an afternoon in Yorkshire where he and his team mates blitzed Huddersfield Town 5-1 to claim ninth place in the final league table. The finish has been built on the back of seven wins in the last nine games.
“The eight games we’ve really played some nice football,” said Harlee. “[We’ve been] solid, scored a lot of goals and it’s good to finish the season on a high.”
The side ended up joint top goalscorers in the Championship after four second half goals added to Sergi Canos’ 22 second opener.
“It holds us in good stead for next year,” said Harlee. “Scott Hogan makes it looks it’s easy to score goals. Lasse’s found his form and burying goals, people are chipping in here and there; I’ve just got to start scoring. You never know where we could end up.”
The match also saw Harlee’s 200th game in Brentford colours, with the 24-year-old also announcing earlier this week that he will become a father for a first time.
“I’m very proud,” said Harlee, “It was good to get a win as well; obviously we want to get a few more clean sheets but we’re scoring goals so it doesn’t matter. I feel we’re a much more solid unit under Dean and Richard; I’m really looking forward to next season.”
Brentford were too powerful for The Terriers, especially in the second half where they controlled the game ruthlessly – registering the Club’s highest ever away win in the top tiers.
“I think it was easy,” said Harlee. “It was damage limitation for them; for us it was go and get as many goals as possible. Some of the boys were at a canter today and it shows how strong we are as a team. When a lot of teams have nothing to play for they let it go. Every game we step into the right frame of mind; we’ve got a group of boys and good mentalities.
Dean came in and told me he made me his number one priority,” said Harlee. “It was nice to have a manager that made me feel wanted so it was a no brainer in the end. I hope next year we can get into the Premier League; that’s what I want to happen and try and make happen.”
