Clayton Donaldson said he felt both teams would be happy after Brentford drew 1-1 at Walsall yesterday afternoon.
The striker headed Brentford in front on the half hour but Walsall levelled before half time.
Both teams could have scored after the break but neither did and it ended all square, a fair result according to Clayton.
The striker said all teams found it difficult to go to Walsall and the home side were tough opponents.
He said Brentford went to win the game, which meant the contest was open, and both teams had chances.
“I think it was a fair result,” said Clayton, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“This is not the easiest place to come and we have drawn here in the past, we haven’t often won here.
“They played good football and gave us a tough game.
“We came here to attack, we wanted to win the game and so did they.
“It was end-to-end, a bit too open at times, but it is a positive way of playing.
“We had a couple of chances to have won it and they had a few shots that could have gone in.
“Both teams will think it is a fair result.
“I think both teams will be happy.”
Clayton said Brentford’s goal was one that had been worked on in training.
Jonathan Douglas started the charge on the left and the ball was worked for Jake Bidwell to deliver to the back post.
Clayton got ahead of his man to direct a header in the bottom corner for his 14th goal of the season.
“We worked on the sort of situation we scored from all week this week,” he said.
“As soon as they ball goes wide, I stay out and try and time my run.
“Today it was perfect.
“I could see Jake Bidwell shaping up and the ball made the goal.
“I just had to try and get my head on it.
“As soon as I got in front of him, I knew it was the perfect ball.
“I knew if I got a good connection it would go in.”
Walsall equalised just before half time and Clayton said he felt The Bees would have won if they had got in to the break ahead.
The striker said it was a good point overall.
“Their goal came against the run of play and, a minute before half time, was a bit of a sucker blow,” he said.
“We finished off the first half strongly and if we would have gone in 1-0 I think we would have won the game comfortably.
“It is a good point.
“Not many teams come here and win.
“We want to win every game but it won’t always happen.
“Walsall were stubborn and we weren’t at our best.
“This is a positive point, better than coming away with nothing.”
Before the draw Brentford had won eight Sky Bet League One games in a row, and 13 from the previous 14.
They had climbed to the top of League One, albeit they now sit second.
Clayton said The Bees were in a great position and promotion was in their hands.
“Teams show us more respect and work harder off the ball with our current run,” said Clayton.
“It’s natural that teams will do.
“You have done well to get where you are and earned the respect.
“We are in a great position.
“It is in our hands.
“If we do the job, we will be alright.”
