Goalkeeper David Button said Brentford’s players were happy with the point they earned in the Sky Bet League One game against Walsall.
The Bees draw 1-1 at Walsall yesterday afternoon, Clayton Donaldson put them ahead on the half hour but the home side hit back and levelled before the break.
David said The Bees were a bit below the best and he praised the way his team mates dug in to ensure they did not lose.
“Given our performance, we are happy with a point,” said the goalkeeper, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“We were under a bit of pressure in the second half but the lads dug in.
“We know we won’t always create loads of opportunities when we are attacking.
“When it doesn’t click we have to do the horrible side.
“We did that today, the lads dug in and we are happy with a point.
“We started slowly and around the time we scored we got more confident, started moving the ball quicker and keeping possession.
“The goal just before half time killed us.
“They got a bit of momentum but credit to the lads for defending well.”
Walsall’s goal came in the last minute of the first half.
Brentford failed to get a corner away, the ball came back in, Milan Lalkovic headed across and Craig Westcarr nodded in.
“It came from the second phase of a set piece, which is a bit disappointing,” said David.
“We need to be aware of runners and picking people up.
“Sometimes, there is a not a lot of blame, it’s just one of those things.”
David said both teams had chances to win the game after the break and a draw was probably fair.
Marcello Trotta had the best chance of the second half, turning a Clayton Donaldson cross over the bar from ten yards.
“We feel we could have won it,” said David.
“Marcello Trotta’s opportunity in the second half was better than any of theirs.
“They will claim they had half chances.
“A draw is probably fair
“They didn’t have too many opportunities.”
Brentford were without Harlee Dean, Adam Forshaw and Sam Saunders – all injured – and had to make changes defensively.
Kevin O’Connor played at centre back for the second game in a row after not playing since September.
David said it was credit to the players that they could come in after not playing much and perform well.
“We have a fantastic squad,” said David.
“It is credit to people like Kevin, who can come in after not playing and put a shift in.
“There are other players that have not had a lot of time during our run and have come in and done well.
“Everyone is going to be needed at some point if we are to achieve our goals this season.”
The draw extended Brentford’s unbeaten Sky Bet League One run to 15 games.
They had won eight in a row, and 13 out of 14, before the draw at Walsall and David said The Bees could beat anyone.
He added that it would be nearly impossible to win every game but it was important to stay unbeaten.
Brentford have two home games coming up next, against Gillingham and Bristol City, and David said they had to start another winning run.
“It is hard, nearly impossible, to go out and win every game,” he said.
“We are still unbeaten, that’s the main thing.
“Winning eight in a row was a fantastic achievement, but that’s gone now.
“We have to try and put a similar run together.
“If we do we will be where we want to be.
“On our day we can beat anyone, if we are not quite at our best we are a match for most teams in this league.
“That we are expected to win every game shows how well we have done.
“Our home form is great and we will look to carry that on.
“They are two tricky games but if we play our optimum we will win.”
