Brentford Manager Uwe Rösler said his team’s 1-1 FA Cup with Budweiser draw with Bradford City was a fair result.
The Bees booked a place in the Third Round draw with a draw in West Yorkshire.
Clayton Donaldson put Brentford ahead but James Hanson equalised for the home side in the second half.
Brentford started in a 4-1-4-1 system but switched to 4-4-2 and were in control until Bradford Manager Phil Parkinson made a triple substitution on the hour mark.
The home side had the better of the later stages on a freezing night where the pitch frosted over but Brentford held firm.
“I think it was a fair result,” said Uwe, speaking after the match.
“Big compliments to Bradford, they started the game very well and we had problems with the physicality of Hanson.
“We had problems with the duels in the middle of the park.
“When we changed to 4-4-2 we came back in to the game and got the goal.
“The conditions were difficult for both teams but maybe more of a disadvantage for us because we like to pass the ball.
“The surface was so quick, the ball always ran away.
“It was difficult to establish goods passing.
“I thought we controlled the game in the second half until my colleague made three substitutions.
“Then they gained momentum and got the equaliser.
“We had some very good counter attack opportunities in the second half but they also had two good chances,
“Overall it was a fair result and well done to Bradford.”
Uwe praised Phil Parkinson for the triple change and said it changed the evening.
“The change gave the crowd a boost,” he said.
“They got fresh legs in.
“Bradford struggled to keep up with us in the second half.
“It was a great substitution.
“They got momentum and they caused us problems.”
Brentford were without long-term injury victims Kevin O’Connor and Farid El Alagui as well as Tom Adeyemi and Leon Legge, who have missed the last four weeks.
Loan signings Rob Kiernan and Lee Hodson were not allowed to play by their parents clubs and Jonathan Douglas had a knock.
Development Squad players Antonio German, Emmanuel Oyeleke, Aaron Pierre and Leon Redwood were named as substitutes.
Uwe said Brentford will be stronger for the replay and he was confident they could progress after extending their unbeaten run to nine with the draw.
“It was important we did not lose the game and we are still in the tie,” he said.
“For the replay we will have Tom Adeyemi, Jonathan Douglas and Leon Legge back.
“We will have players back.
“Every player on our bench today is good enough to play in the First Team.
“With injuries to experienced players, we are missing them.
“It could have been a different game if they were available.
“I am happy.
“It was a good test for us.
“They pushed us, overall we are happy.
“We kept our unbeaten run going, we are still in the tie and I fancy us at home.
“When you can’t win, make sure you don’t lose.
“When we get players back, our quality will rise.
“I am pleased with the players, they dug in.
“We showed character.”
Brentford’s next game is a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Southern Section Quarter Final against Southend United on Tuesday.
Uwe said Jonathan Douglas was doubtful but his loan players could play.
“There is a possibility for the on-loan players to come back for the JPT game but we also have some small injuries,” he said.
“Jonathan Douglas has a problem.
“He is a question mark for Tuesday.”
