Jonathan Douglas hailed Brentford’s character after they picked up a third straight Sky Bet Championship win by beating Norwich City.
The Bees came out on top 2-1 at Carrow Road yesterday thanks to a first half goal from Jota and an Alex Pritchard penalty.
It followed wins over Rotherham United and Brighton and Hove Albion and lifts The Bees to fourth in the table, two points off the top.
Jonathan praised Brentford’s performance and the way they recovered from conceding an equaliser to a deflected Nathan Redmond shot to go on and win.
“It is a good result,” he said.
“Norwich have a lot of good players, a lot of players that have played in the Premier League.
“The performance was the biggest thing.
“We played really well on a difficult pitch.
“We passed the ball well and, in the first half in particular, we created a lot of good chances.
“We could have gone in at half time two or three up.
“It wasn’t to be, but we kept going.
“We got a goal but gave them a goal; we were unlucky with the shot deflecting in.
“We showed great character to keep going and get the win.”
Brentford could have been ahead inside a minute when Stuart Dallas put Andre Gray through with only Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy to beat but the ball bobbled horribly and he sliced it wide.
Jonathan said The Bees took a few minutes to get to grips with the pitch but were able to play their football on it.
“The pitch wasn’t a big factor,” he said.
“To be honest, the Training Ground isn’t the best at the moment.
“It was difficult to play on; we want to play our passing game.
“It didn’t bother us too much after the first five or ten minutes.
“We passed it well for large spells and we deserved the win.”
Brentford had three or four good chances early on, including the one from Gray, and had quietened the home crowd by the time Jota scored.
“We have started every game quickly,” said Jonathan.
“We knew they would come at us and try to get balls in to the box as quickly as possible.
“We quietened them, passed the ball well and created chances.
“Andre was unlucky, he got a bobble.
“But we played well, to come here, play as we did and get the result – we’re delighted.”
The first goal came from a Norwich attack; Moses Odubajo ran 60 yards and played in Gray who fed it on to Jota to score.
Norwich equalised a few minutes later and the game went in to a lull but Brentford took control in the second half and got the winner.
“The goal was very important,” said Jonathan.
“At times this season we have played well and not scored and got punished.
“To get the goal was important but our performance was really good.
“We had to keep believing after conceding.
“If you go hiding, a team like this will beat you.
“We stood up to them, passed the ball well and were deserved winners.
“We could have had a couple more, the keeper made a good save from me.
“We are delighted.”
Norwich could have taken an undeserved share of the spoils but for David Button.
The Brentford goalkeeper made a superb save from Cameron Jerome, after a Bradley Johnson effort had hit the crossbar, and then denied Lewis Grabban late on.
Jonathan said the Brentford defence also deserved a lot of credit, along with his central midfield partner Toumani Diagouraga.
“David made a couple of good saves,” he said.
“We knew they would create chances.
“Butts has been good for us all season but the four in front of him were different class.
“Toums, since he came in to the team, has been great.
“The team is gelling well.
“We are taking one game at a time; we try to win every one.
“We try to set the tone and the majority of times this year we have come out on top.”
