It was a mixed day for Brentford's Futsal side as their Achilles heel of conceding sloppy goals contributed to a 6-1 defeat against Peterborough United in their ‘A’ team game.
Brentford, who had beaten The Posh 2-0 back on the opening day of the season looked like it was only a matter of time before they opened the scoring as they dominated the early possession in Wednesday's match.
What became apparent though was their inability to get the ball into central areas and offer support which meant that despite that possession chances were few and far between.
It was The Posh who opened the scoring midway through the first half and also took the initiative.
From there on there was only one team in the game as Peterborough counter-attacked catching a lethargic Brentford out many times.
The Bees had keeper Charlie Rose to thank for four excellent saves.
With two minutes to go before the interval, Brentford called a time out.
Despite the call to be defensively sharp, a further two goals were conceded and at 3-0 it was going to take something special to rescue this game.
Despite their best efforts Brentford’s play was mediocre and Peterborough capitalised on their mistakes and, full of confidence, two more goals followed to make it 5-0.
Some sympathetic refereeing meant that Connor Miller was lucky to stay on the pitch as he committed a foul with the player denied a scoring opportunity.
A sixth goal followed from the resulting free-kick for Peterborough.
Brentford managed a consolation goal from Louis Dailey with an excellent move but it was The Bees who were left to rue a very bad day at the office with The Posh worth winners.
The B team friendly against Southend ended with the Bees wining 11-1.
To rub salt into the wounds the return journey from Barking to Griffin Park (30 miles) took six hours due to an accident at the Redbridge Roundabout.
