Dean Smith gave his reaction to the defeat at St. Andrew’s, which saw his side lose to a late goal.
“It’s disappointing to lose the game as I don’t think we deserved to lose,” said Dean. “In fact we were the better team. The one thing I’ll accept is that we lost the game trying to win it. First half I thought we were well on top, lots of possession. Probably our movement in the final third could have been a little better.
“Second half they were always a threat on the counter attack and they’ve got the goal but our reaction to that, after a five or ten minute spell where they got on top a little bit, was very good. We got back into the game. I know Judgey had just missed one before when he went through, but the keeper’s spilled his shot and Hoff has managed to score and I thought we were the only team trying to win it.
“Unfortunately we got undone with a counter attack and sucker punch at the end.”
One of the game’s big talking points was Jon Toral’s challenge on Jake Bidwell late in the first half.
“I felt it was a red card,” said Dean. “There’s question marks if it was a foul before though on him from our lads. That wasn’t given and for me, he’s jumped in, out of control, and on most pitches that’s a red card and unfortunately that wasn’t given.”
