Dean Smith started his Brentford reign as Head Coach with a win and clean sheet as his side beat Milton Keynes Dons convincingly.
“It’s a great start and a performance to match,” said Dean. “That was the thing that I asked the players for before the game, because when you have that the result normally follows. First half today I thought we were outstanding [it] could and probably should have been three or four up at half time, which would have made the game a lot more comfortable.”
The 44-year-old was enthused with his side’s performance, especially in keeping the clean sheet.
“Defensively we were outstanding,” said Dean. “The key to our win today was how good we were without the ball. If we’re going to go on and be successful that has to continue along with the hard work.”
Alan McCormack was in the initial starting line-up but pulled up 15 minutes before kick-off, leaving the Head Coach to shuffle the pack. Dean would not be drawn on the severity of Alan’s injury.
“I always wait a little bit on injuries,” said Dean. “I think 24 hours and then you get an idea of where the player’s at, but he felt his groin and this a league where you can’t go and risk anything. It was a quick change, look at the subs bench and Sergi’s been playing an awful lot, he knows how we play.”
