Goalkeeper David Button said the Brentford players were pleased with the point they earned against Wigan Athletic but there was a feeling they could have got more.
The Bees drew 0-0 in Lancashire yesterday afternoon.
David said Brentford stood up well to Wigan’s threat and played well enough to have won the match.
He said there were lots of positives but it was a sign of Brentford’s progress that there was not unbridled delight with a 0-0 draw at Wigan.
“We are pleased but there is another part of us feeling we could have got all three points, given the way we played,” said the goalkeeper, speaking to Bees Player on the way back from the draw.
“We are not too disappointed but it shows how far we have come that we are not delighted with a 0-0 at Wigan.
“There are lots of positives to take.
“We know they pose a threat, they have a lot of experienced strikers, some of which they have paid a lot of money for.
“In the second half, away from home, we knew we would have spells where we were under pressure.
“We stood up to that, full credit to the lads, and they didn’t create too many clear cut chances.”
Brentford dominated the first half and came closest to taking the lead when Andre Gray lobbed an effort inches over.
David said Brentford knew Wigan boss Uwe Rösler would get his team going in the second half but The Bees weathered the storm, kept the ball well and had more chances of their own after the break.
“We knew Uwe would have got in to them,” said David.
“We expected them to come at us in the second half, which they did.
“We knew they would pile the pressure on.
“We kept the ball well and had our own spells when we were good.”
David described his own day as pleasing after keeping his third clean sheet of the Sky Bet Championship season.
He made one good low save from a Shaun Maloney shot and denied the same man later on in the match.
“There were some crosses that I came for and that takes the pressure off,” said David.
“That, combined with the saves and being solid, means it is a pleasing day.
“We press from the front, have energy in midfield and a solid back four.
“That is a great combination.
“To go to Wigan, with the budget they have, and put on a performance like that, we have to be delighted but part of us feels we could win.”
David said there was a sense of achievement to get a clean sheet but he would rather win the match.
“Clean sheets are the be all and end all, it is what we go out there for and it is a great sense of achievement when it happens,” he said.
“But I would rather win 4-3.
“It is nice but I would have taken three points ahead of that.”
Brentford have conceded 16 goals in 12 games so far this term, at least 25 per cent of which have been long-range strikes that have been close to unstoppable.
David said he felt he had been solid this season and Brentford were working to stop the goals they could, accepting that sometimes the opposition could produce play that was difficult to defend against.
“[Brentford Assistant Manager] David Weir does a lot of work with the defenders, that is really paying off,” said the goalkeeper.
“Sometimes you look at goals we have conceded and there is not much we can do.
“That is the level we are playing at.
“If we cut down the goals we can control, which we have done, it will stand us in good stead.
“On the whole I feel I have been solid this season and had a few good games.
“I am always looking to pick faults and find ways to improve.”
David also paid tribute to the travelling Brentford fans, who numbered around 1,150 at the DW Stadium.
“The fans were outstanding today, as they have been all season,” he said.
“To come in the numbers they did and give vocal support is a massive help.
“It is not unnoticed by the players and we are really grateful for it.”
