Brentford goalkeeper David Button praised Sam Saunders’ contribution to the team as the 32-year-old midfielder scored a superb individual goal to give Brentford a first-half lead in the 1-1 draw with Leeds United.
“He’s a great lad,” said David. “Great in the dressing room to have with his experience and his talking; he’s fantastic to have around and you saw the quality on the pitch as well. He’s still got it and it was another great finish tonight.”
David looked back on an evening where The Bees should have picked up three points but were forced to settle for one due to substitute Mustapha Carayol's late goal that earned Leeds a point.
“Ultimately we’re disappointed,” said David. “After going 1-0 up and playing so well in the first half I felt we dropped off probably in the second half and let them back into the game so in a game where we were hoping to win and it hasn’t happened but hopefully we’ll bounce back next week.”
The 26-year-old saw the enforced break before the next match with Brighton and Hove Albion as a good time for Dean Smith and his staff to put his ideas into practice on the training pitch.
“We’ll have ten good days of training,” said David. “Which is important when you have a new manager come in; it’s a good time and we’ll use it well to improve and be ready for the game against Brighton.”
