David Button said Brentford’s players were excited about the final day of the Sky Bet Championship season and the chance to clinch a Play-Off place.
The regular 2014/15 season ends tomorrow, Saturday May 2, and Brentford’s final game is at Griffin Park against Wigan Athletic.
The Bees are currently seventh in the table and a win will give them a chance of a Play-Off spot.
Brentford will make the top six if they win and Derby County lose or if Ipswich Town lose and there is a three goal swing in goal difference in favour of the West London side.
Only a large win for Wolverhampton Wanderers or Ipswich scoring at least five goals and still losing could stop The Bees in that scenario.
David said there was less pressure on Brentford as it was out of their hands.
But he said the players were looking forward to the match against Wigan and doing their job.
“With what is at stake, this is probably the biggest game I have played in,” said the goalkeeper, speaking to Bees Player this week.
“There is probably not as much pressure on us as there would be if it was in our hands.
“We know we are waiting on a couple of results.
“Everyone is excited and looking forward to it.
“We hope we can do our bit and hope something else happens elsewhere.
“All we can do it our bit.
“We know winning the game won’t be easy but if we get the job done we can wait for results elsewhere.”
Ipswich travel to Blackburn Rovers while Derby face Reading at home.
David said players do become aware of scores elsewhere and pointed to last season when Brentford knew results were going their way on the day they clinched promotion from League One.
He said The Bees had to score early and put the pressure on.
“I remember when we got promoted last year the news filtered through,” said the stopper.
“The fans will be aware and that gets on to the pitch.
“Hopefully we can put the pressure on, staff elsewhere will know the scores.
“This is what we have been playing for all season.
“We are looking forward to it but we have to get the job done and see where it takes us.”
Brentford took the race for the Play-Offs to the final day with a win at Reading last week.
Alan Judge scored one and set up a second for James Tarkowski as The Bees picked up a 2-0 victory.
David made a few vital saves to ensure the win and said it was great to get a clean sheet.
He said there were things to work on but there were positives to take.
“It probably wasn’t our best performance but it was great to get a win and a clean sheet that we have been after for a few games,” said David.
“There were positives to take from it and at this stage of the season the most important thing was the three points.
“I don’t think it was a bad performance but there were areas to improve on.
“We didn’t get playing from the back as much as we normally do but, with the way they set up, it doesn’t always happen like that.
“We took our chances when they came.”
Reading pushed high up the pitch making it difficult to play out from the back.
David was forced to go longer more often and admitted that was an area of the game that could have gone better but said it did not affect the result.
The goalkeeper said the events of the previous week – when Bolton Wanderers scored a point-saving equaliser after a short Tarkowski back pass had allowed Mark Davies to rob David – were not a factor.
“We like to play from the back as it suits the players in our team,” he said.
“Reading pushed on to us and at this stage of the season we didn’t want to take too many risks.
“It was a thing we could have done better but it didn’t affect the result.
“The goal against Bolton wasn’t mentioned but maybe it was in the back of a few minds.
“These things can happen with the style of football we play.
“It was a shame it happened when it did but it shouldn’t affect the way we play.
“We are professionals and it is part and parcel of football.
“It is not easy to keep your confidence up but you have to do it.”
David made fine saves from Simon Cox and Hal Robson-Kanu that may prove vital if The Bees make the Play-Offs on goal difference.
“There were a couple of saves, which is always nice,” said the goalkeeper.
“When you can help the team and keep a clean sheet we know with the attacking quality we have got we always have a chance of scoring and getting the three points.”
