League Cup sponsors Capital One have helped to mark the historic result Brentford's match against Dagenham and Redbridge earlier this week by arranging for the goal nets to be donated to the National Football Museum.
Brentford travelled to East London in a Round One tie at the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Stadium that saw a record-equalling number of goals scored in League Cup match.
The match finished in a 6-6 draw at the end of extra time and the tie was settled by penalties, with The Bees winning 4-2.
The 12-goal scoreline equalled Arsenal’s 7-5 Capital One Cup Round Four win over Reading in 2012 to make it the joint-highest goals total ever in a League Cup match.
As with the way clubs sometimes honour great players by retiring shirt numbers, Capital One, in association with Dagenham & Redbridge, are marking the occasion by retiring the goal nets used in the match.
The nets will be replaced with brand new ones and those used in the historic Capital One Cup tie will be sent to the National Football Museum in Manchester along with a letter from Capital One, which can be read
