Jon De Souza's Youth Team took a huge stride towards a top two finish in the Under-18 Professional Development League Two South after a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace this morning.
The Bees win coupled with victory for Cardiff City over Charlton Athletic means The Bees are now eight points clear of second place with only five games of the season remaining.
Jeremiah Kamanzi scored the only goal of the game in the 19th minute as he latched on to Gradi Milenge's defence splitting pass and lifted a shot over Brad Comins in the home goal.
The win was no less than The Bees deserved as they dominated the game from the outset producing arguably their best all-round performance of the campaign so far.
With James Ferry dominating the midfield and Courtney Senior and Kamanzi providing good outlets on either flank Brentford bossed possession from the referee's whistle against a team who had won seven of their last eight league matches.
Such was The Bees' dominance that Aaron Bissaka and Elliot List, who should have formed a front three with Corie Andrews, spent most of the first-half as part of a midfield five trying to repel Brentford's attacking play.
Zain Westbrooke had a deflected free-kick comfortably gathered by Comins and Ferry pulled a shot wide from the edge of the box before The Bees struck.
De Souza's side should have taken the lead 60 seconds before they did but Bradley Clayton's weak shot was easy for Comins as the striker took the ball off the toe of the better placed Herson Rodrigues Alves.
That miss mattered not a minute later as Gradi Milenge's inch perfect lofted through ball was beautifully taken down by Kamanzi and the wide midfielder then lofted his shot over the advancing Comins from the edge of the box.
The Bees were playing some bright creative football, forcing The Eagles deeper and deeper into their own half.
Andrews was becoming increasingly isolated up front on his own and when Palace did win the ball back Gradi Milenge and Seth Owens were doubling up on Andrews and winning the ball back quickly.
A lovely flowing move involving Westbrooke, Clayton and Rodrigues Alves almost produced a second but Jason Akiotu made a vital last ditch interception.
Nik Tzanev had been untroubled in the opening half hour but when he was called upon he was alert to produce a fine diving save to turn away a close range header from List.
That was a rare moment of alarm for the Brentford backline and they could have gone into the break 2-0 ahead but Comins showed strong wrists to divert a powerfully struck Audrius Laucys shot over the bar.
If Brentford had dominated the first-half then they started the second-half in much the same vein.
Clayton curled a long-range effort over the bar and the second year scholar was then denied by Comins after good interplay from Kamanzi and Ferry.
A clever short corner routine created an opening for Rodrigues Alves but his improvised toe-poked shot from 12 yards skimmed the face of the bar on it's way behind for a goal kick.
Brentford nearly handed Palace a lifeline as a sloppy pass allowed Bissaka in but Tzanev stood tall and then stuck out a leg to block the winger's shot.
That, however, was the sum total of Palace's second-half efforts on goal as Brentford continued to make but fail to take chances as the half wore on.
Rodrigues Alves won the ball back and ran through unchallenged but rolled his shot wide from 18 yards with only Comins to beat.
Senior brought the best out of Comins with a fierce drive from 12 yards before Clayton was the next to be thwarted by the home goalkeeper.
As the match entered the closing ten minutes the hosts pressed forward looking for a leveller but in doing so left gaps for the pace of Senior to exploit.
The 17-year-old, who spent time at Wycombe Wanderers earlier this month, beat three men on a mazy run before squaring for Rodrigues Alves who curled his shot wide.
Comins produced a fine low save to deny Ferry and then when The Bees worked the ball back into the box Senior headed over from eight yards.
Senior had one final chance to make the game safe in the final minute as he burst from the edge of his own box to the edge of the Palace area before sending his shot straight into the arms of Comins.
The lack of a second goal did not prove important as The Bees comfortably saw out Palace's late attempts to find a way back into the game to pick up a fifth win in their last six matches.
