Chris Long thought Brentford’s second-half showing at Ewood Park on Tuesday night displayed the character there is within the dressing room.
The Bees trailed 2-1 at the break as goals from Rudy Gestede and Chris Taylor, either side of Chris’ fourth for the club, had Mark Warburton’s side looking at a second defeat in four days.
However the visitors hit back as Jota levelled things seven minutes into the second-half and Andre Gray completed the turnaround with a goal six minutes from time.
The win ended a run of three away matches without victory and kept The Bees a point clear of seventh placed Ipswich Town in the race for the end of season play-offs.
Speaking to Bees Player after the victory Chris felt The Bees were not themselves in the first-half but that they improved after half-time.
Even though it wasn’t a classic performance the Everton loanee thinks the most important thing is that they got the three points.
“The mood in the dressing room is better than it was coming it at half-time,” said Chris.
“All the lads are buzzing, it was a great win and we just need to enjoy the moment now.
“The first-half wasn’t our best performance but luckily enough we came out in the second-half and were tremendous and we got the win.
“All we are bothered about is that we got the win and, no matter how we performed, we got that win.
“Tonight shows the characters of the lads, the manager and the staff as they got us going after our first-half performance and we got the win.”
Chris levelled things for The Bees just before half-time as he was afforded time and space to run at the Rovers’ backline before seeing his shot deflect in off Matt Kilgallon.
As well as scoring in the first-half Chris also played a small but key role in Brentford’s second scored by Jota.
It was the 20-year-old’s off-the-ball run that created the space for Jota to cut inside and unleash his shot that found the bottom corner past Jason Steele.
Chris came in for Andre Gray who started Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City at Griffin Park and while he was pleased with his personal contribution to the win he was delighted that it was Gray who scored the decisive fifth goal.
“I saw a lot of space and nothing was happening for us on the night,” said Chris.
“I know what I can do and I know that I can score and it went in.
“You do earn your luck by having a go but a goal is a goal.
“The manager told me to just keep going at them and eventually they gave me that bit of space.
“They shouldn’t give me that space because I will score.
“For the second goal I tried to drag the defender out of the way so Jota could have a shot or pass to Stuart Dallas on the other side.
“It was a great finish and Jota’s goal was tremendous.
“Sometimes you have to make unselfish runs and I did that today and we got the goal.
“I was helping Andre because he needed a rest.
“I got my goal and then I was delighted when Andre came on and got his goal.”
Next up for Brentford is a home game on Saturday against struggling Millwall at Griffin Park.
After Saturday’s defeat Chris admitted that it was important to pick up the win at Blackburn and he is now looking to carry the confidence and form from Tuesday’s win into the clash with The Lions which leads into the final international break of the season.
“I am delighted with the win and I am made up for the lads,” said Chris.
“It was crucial today and we knew we needed to win.
“After the first-half we were wondering what was going to happen but after we got the win everyone was buzzing.
“Hopefully we can get the win on Saturday before the international break and keep going from there.”
