Charlie Adams said Brentford’s Development Squad had proved they could bounce back by beating Barnet.
The Bees beat the North London side in an Under-21 Professional Development League Two South match a week after losing 5-1 to Charlton Athletic and extended their current run to one defeat in eight.
Brentford went 2-0 up in the first half and Charlie scored what proved to be the winner after half time.
He admitted The Bees weren’t as good as they would have liked at the end of the match but praised the way they ground out the win.
“Last Monday was a blip for us,” said Charlie, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“We showed today we are a team that can bounce back and we have the players to do it.
“We wanted to head in to Christmas near the top of the table.
“I thought we were superb in the first half, we worked hard.
“We knew we needed to come out of the blocks because we didn’t play well last week.
“Second half we might have got a bit complacent and the level dropped.
“But we still won the game.
“All the top teams grind out the wins, that is what we did today.”
Charlie scored his fourth goal of the season ten minutes in to the second half when he picked up the ball when a corner came back to him and drilled it in to the net from 20 yards.
He said it was something he had been working on with Development Squad Manager Jon De Souza.
He played just behind front pair Luke Norris and Antonio German, who also both scored, at the point of a midfield diamond and said he felt he was getting better in that role.
“I had a free kick and then a corner,” he explained.
“I took a player on, I wanted to catch the keeper off guard and I hit the bottom corner.
“I have been working with Jon on it.
“It has worked, in a match situation I scored a goal.
“My roles is one where I need to work hard, I have defensive duties as well.
“I am still working at that.
“I enjoy playing in that role and I am improving.”
Barnet included ten players in their team who had played First Team football this season and the game was physical at times.
Charlie said it was important Development Squad players were used to those sorts of contests if they were to progress.
Antonio German scored for the first team in a 1-1 draw against Preston North End earlier this month and Charlie said he wanted to show what he could do too.
“In the Football League there will be teams that get in your face,” said Charlie.
“They will kick you and try to overpower you.
“It’s a good learning curve to play games like this.
“It is the sort of thing you will come up against in League One.
“All Development Squad players want a chance in the First Team.
“When you get a chance you have to take it.
“Antonio took his chance, scored against Preston and I hope to get a chance soon.
“I want to show all the fans what I can do.”
