Brentford Manager Uwe Rösler said his team deserved their “fantastic” win against Notts County.
The Bees climbed to second in npower League One after coming from behind to win at Meadow Lane.
Tony Craig sliced the ball in to his own net to put the hosts in front but Adam Forshaw equalised late in the first half.
Clayton Donaldson bundled his 14th goal of the season over the line to win it for The Bees in the dying stages.
“To win that game in the last minute was fantastic,” said Uwe, speaking after the match.
“I don’t know how many times we have scored goals in the last minutes.
“After the first 30 minutes, we were the team that ran the show, mostly.
“We deserved to win.”
Uwe said he had to change the shape of his team in order to take control of the game.
The Bees started with Rob Kiernan in front of the back four in a 4-1-4-1 system and Uwe said County deserved to go ahead 20 minutes in.
But he switched to a 4-2-3-1 shape, putting Adam Forshaw in behind Marcello Trotta and matching Notts County’s shape in midfield.
Uwe said the game turned at that point and County offered little after that.
“We struggled a little bit with our shape at the start of the game,” said Uwe.
“Their holding player picked up too many balls.
“They didn’t create a lot but caused us problems on our left hand side.
“The first goal came because we did not realise the danger of a throw deep in our half.
“He crossed the ball and got a goal.
“I think they deserved it at that point.
“After we played with two holding players and put Adam Forshaw in behind the striker, the momentum of the game turned.
“We created a lot of chances in the first half and in the second our fitness paid dividends.
“We pushed them back, they rarely threatened, apart from long balls and corners.”
The winning goal came when a short corner was worked to Adam Forshaw, his shot was cleared but it looped up and Clayton Donaldson rose above three defenders, almost clattering the post in the process, to head in.
It gave the striker, who is currently playing on the right of a three behind Marcello Trotta, a goal in a fifth successive game and took his tally for the season to 14.
“It was very, very brave to go for that sort of ball,” said Uwe.
“Clayton has a very good run at the moment.
“I think it suits him to play off Marcello.
“He can come in from the side, the pressure is off him and he can find good positions.
“We put in a number of good balls today from Harry Forrester and Jake Bidwell; I was hoping he would come in on the far post more often.
“He could have got on the end of more of them and had more goals.
“He did it the one time and it was crucial.
“There are not many strikers who would go in for such a ball with the post there.
“I’m delighted that he did it.”
Marcello Trotta set up the equalising goal, playing in Adam Forshaw to smash home.
Uwe said he thinks there will be more goals to come from the former Everton midfield player.
“We said to Adam that Jonathan Douglas had scored regularly for us this season and it was his turn,” said Uwe.
“He has looked good and needed a goal.
“I think more will come from him.
“It was a great counter-attack, Marcello released the ball just in time and it was a great finish.”
Uwe said Rob Kiernan had to be taken off at half time with concussion but he was expected to be OK to face Stevenage next Saturday as he will miss the FA Cup with Budweiser Second Round Replay against Bradford City as he is not eligible.
He admitted he was concerned Notts County would score a goal on the counter attack and win the game.
“I felt the game was going too well for us in the second half,” said Uwe.
“They were allowing us to have the ball and waiting for us to make mistakes.
“We committed more and more bodies forward and were, in the second half, at times, so much in control that I felt we would get a bit careless and we hit on the counter.
“But we got the goal we deserved and it is another three points on the table.”
He added it was important not to get carried away with four straight League One wins and only being off the top of the table on goal difference.
“The main recipe for us to keep our run going is to keep our feet on the ground,” said Uwe.
“We will let other people talk about us.
“We will go back to business.
“We had a hard game today and have an unexpected FA Cup tie waiting on Tuesday.”
