Brentford striker Andre Gray feels his side have nothing to lose as they look to reverse a 2-1 deficit against Middlesbrough in the Second Leg of the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Semi Finals.
Mark Warburton’s side will travel to the North East next Friday knowing that they will need to win to extend their season to the Play-Off final at Wembley.
Aitor Karanka’s side took the lead midway through the first-half of Friday's match as Jelle Vossen headed home Adam Clayton’s deep cross.
Andre looked to have secured a draw as he scored just after the break but an injury time goal from Fulham loanee Fernando Amorebieta gave The Teesiders the advantage.
Speaking to Bees Player after the match Andre admitted it was a difficult first-half at Griffin Park but felt The Bees second-half performance shows they are far from out of the tie.
“Everybody knows the job isn’t done yet,” said Andre.
“It would have been nice to have come out with a draw but it wasn’t meant to be.
“We just have to go for it now next week and we have nothing to lose.
“We found it difficult in the first-half to break them down and get into the pockets that we like to get into.
“We couldn’t get some of the balls in that we like to.
“Second-half we showed our quality but there was just that lack of a final ball at time.
“I thought we dominated and it was disappointing to concede that goal right at the end.
“Nothing changed at half-time we just needed to keep being patient.
“I think the fans were getting on our back a bit in the first-half for keeping the ball too much but that is how we play.
“We had to block that out and be patient because things can change in a split second.
“We just had to keep doing what we were doing and not worry about anyone else.
“First-half it was difficult for us and we conceded a sloppy goal.
“It had to open up a bit second half and we got our tails up and got a goal.
“It was unfortunate that we couldn’t get the win and it is even more disappointing that we conceded the late goal.”
Andre’s goal came about as he chased down a hopeful long ball and forced an error from visiting keeper Dimitri Konstantopoulos which allowed the striker to roll home into an empty net from 20 yards.
Playing the lone striker role Andre said he has to chase down a lot of lost causes but he was glad he finally got his reward.
“I tend to chase lost causes a lot of the time,” said Andre.
“I know when is the time to chase, and when it isn’t.
“I was half way there and I took a chance.
“I deserved it because of the amount of times I have done it this season and not got that bit of luck but today I got it.
“I knew I had to hit it first time and it was good that I didn’t have much time to think.
“I had to hit the target because nobody was in the goal and I managed to do that.”
Only three sides have won at The Riverside this season but that doesn’t phase Andre and the rest of the squad.
The striker thinks there is still a long time to go in the tie and said the fans need to stick with the team up in the North East.
“We are an attacking side so regardless of whether we won two or three nil we would never have gone up there and parked the bus” said Andre.
“I don’t think it changes anything but we might have to go for it that little bit more.
“We have to be patient and not panic as it could take to the last 8 minutes to get the two goals.
“We have shown today that we are capable of creating chances and getting goals.
“The fans have got to stick with us.
“We have nothing to lose and it still in our hands.
“They might try and defend that little bit more but we have shown all season that we can go away to big stadiums and perform.
“The fans need to stick with us and keep pushing us to the last minute.”
