Brentford were eliminated from the Soccer AM Plate at the second round stage last week at Birmingham International Arena.
The Futsal Bees were drawn against Mansfield Town and Preston North End.
Mansfield and Preston played out an exciting 4-4 draw in the first match.
Mansfield were Brentford’s first opponents.
It was The Bees who started strongly and were soon creating lots of problems for Town with their movement and rotations.
The decent start was rewarded with a goal when the Bees Frankie Finn received a cross-court pass from Humzah Karim with the resulting shot beating the keeper.
However, the lead lasted only three minutes when a Mansfield corner was cleared but insufficient pressure from Brentford allowed a pass to a player who rounded Charlie Rose in goal and levelled it at 1-1.
Some ill-discipline from Brentford saw them concede five fouls after 14 minutes (every foul after the fifth in each half results in a ten metre penalty for the team who are fouled).
It looked like Brentford were going to survive until half time when a rash challenge from Brentford saw Mansfield take the lead 2-1 with eight seconds to go.
This seemed to rattle Brentford as they conceded two goals in three minutes, putting them 4-1 down.
With eight minutes to go Brad Scott hit the post but skipper Louis Dailey scored from the rebound to make it 4-2.
A time out by Brentford gave Coach Luis Melville the time he needed to change to a ‘fly-keeper’ to try and rescue the game.
It’s a high risk tactic with high reward.
This forced Mansfield back but despite putting them under pressure, numerous chances were wasted before Brentford were caught out to make it 5-2.
A sixth followed for Mansfield and with still one game to play the Bees were eliminated, losing 6-2.
Preston went into the game knowing they had to beat Brentford by five clear goals to progress.
The Bees made it clear that they did not want to finish bottom of the group.
It was Brentford who once again started the strongest with two quick goals from Frankie Finn and Brad Scott putting a huge dent in Preston’s hopes of making the quarter-finals.
Brentford couldn’t capitalise on the start and The Lillywhites eventually dragged themselves back into the game with a goal just before half time to make it 2-1.
Preston levelled a few minutes into the second half.
Both teams went for the win and it was decided by a great piece of skill from the Bees Saki Shire who produced a move straight out of EA Sports FIFA 15 to clinch it for Brentford, 3-2.
