Brentford FC’s Futsal ‘B’ team ended the season with a comprehensive win over local rivals Chelsea.
The Futsal Bees, having lost their first league game against Chelsea 3-2 in the final second of the game and then drew with The Blues 2-2, were keen to end with a victory.
Fielding a very strong team against the Soccer AM Plate runners up, The Bees struck after 45 seconds when Azhan Iqbal created a shooting opportunity, just outside the six-metre penalty area, and smashed home an unstoppable shot to put Brentford into the lead.
It was the Brentford scholars who dominated the first five minutes and Iqbal was instrumental in earning a penalty when he was taken out by Chelsea’s goalkeeper, just inside the area as he was about to shoot.
Alfie Hipwell stepped up to take the penalty and gave the keeper no chance to double the lead.
However, Brentford then allowed Chelsea back into the game with some slack defending and Dan Faust gave Saki Shire no chance to get The Blues back in the game.
Chelsea piled on the pressure with Saki Shire single-handedly keeping Brentford in the game with five saves in the space of two minutes.
Brentford managed to survive and got to the break with their lead intact.
With the game finely poised, Brentford came out and played at a very high tempo and Brad Scott managed to combine with Iqbal in the 25th minute, on the edge of the Chelsea penalty area with a cleverly disguised back-heel that Scott managed to connect with sweetly to make it 3-1.
Scott, growing in confidence made it 4-1 with ten minutes to go.
Chelsea’s Jack Gillick threw his team a lifeline with a goal with eight minutes to go.
They risked everything playing with a ‘fly-keeper’ and Brentford came close a couple of times by catching them out with long range shots.
The game’s most unusual moment came with a time-out called by Brentford.
Time-outs last 60 seconds with the officials giving a 10 second warning whistle prior to play recommencing.
The Bees were back on the court, ready to play, but Chelsea continued with their team talk with all their five players on the court. #
When the time out finished, Brentford restarted with their kick-in and proceeded to score.
The Blues team looked bemused but the officials decided to rule out the goal.
It mattered little to Brentford as Connor Miller completed the win with a fine finish as Brentford won 5-2.
