Lee Carsley's Development Squad picked up their fourth win in five matches after a 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town in the Under-21 Professional Development League Two South this afternoon.
A match that was not the greatest on the eye was settled 13 minutes into the second-half as Jermaine Udumaga broke forward, turned inside his man, and rolled home from eight yards.
Josh Clarke came closest to getting a second goal but he was denied by a fine Michael Crowe save as the game finished 1-0.
With both first-teams in action this evening the two sides both had a young look about them with Youth Team players Gradi Milenge and Bradley Clayton starting for The Bees.
Recent rain had made the pitch heavy and with a strong wind conditions were not the easiest to play the passing football that Lee's side were looking to play.
Playing with the wind in the first-half it was The Bees who started the brighter as Udumaga fired over from distance and then Crowe made a fine block save to deny the onrushing Courtney Senior.
Udumaga flashed a ball across the face of goal that Bradley Clayton was inches away from converting before the Youth-Team top scorer shot wildly over from the edge of the box.
After a frantic opening ten minutes the game settled down as Ipswich closed off the space in midfield that had proved so productive for Brentford in the opening minutes.
Udumaga shot straight at Crowe before The Tractor Boys nearly scored with their first attack of the afternoon.
Richard Lee made a fine flying save to turn away a shot from Monty Patterson and then Victor Gulbranden could only turn the ball against the post as the ball was worked back into the box.
Clayton should really have put the hosts ahead ten minutes before the break as he took down Daniel O'Shaughnessy's through ball but he put his shot wide of the post from 15 yards with only Crowe to beat.
The striker was then inches away from turning home Courtney Senior's low cross as Brentford continued to create the better chances.
Josh Laurent had a shot blocked on the edge of the box on the stroke of half-time as both sides went into the break level.
With Brentford playing into the strong wind in the second-half it was a more even start to the second-half.
Senior's low shot was easily dealt with by Crowe before Lee made a magnificent point blank save to deny Darren McQueen an opener.
The Ipswich's striker perfectly met a left wing cross but Lee somehow turned his bullet header away and when the ball was worked back in Shane McLoughlin deflected it onto the outside of the post and away to safety.
Lee came to Brentford's rescue again two minutes later as he raced out of his box to block another McQueen effort as the striker raced in behind.
Those saves were made to look even more important three minutes later as Brentford took the lead.
Clarke's weighted ball over the top held up on the wind and Udumaga ran onto it, turned inside Joe Robinson, and then slid home from eight yards.
After the goal the game became even more scrappy with neither side managing to create a chance until the final ten minutes.
The Bees were still controlling the majority of possession but were being let down by poor final delivery and decision making in the final third.
Clarke should have made the game safe with seven minutes to go but he shot straight at Crowe when in behind the visitors' defence.
Alex Henshall warmed the palms of Richard Lee from the edge of the box while at the other end Louis Hutton shot over from eight yards.
Laurent tested Crowe from eight yards but the goalkeeper was equal to his effort and Crowe was again called into action in the dying seconds to deny Clarke as he raced through.
As it was one goal was enough for The Bees to avenge the 3-2 defeat in Suffolk earlier on this season.
