Bradley Wright-Phillips said he was “happy” to break his Brentford duck with the winner against Notts County.
The striker joined The Bees on loan from Charlton Athletic last month and scored his first goal against County on Good Friday.
He latched on to a Tom Adeyemi pass and slotted home to give Brentford a 2-0 lead.
Bradley, who spoke to The Bees Player Show after the match, had hit the post in the first half.
The striker had been denied by a number of good saves in recent games but hit the back of the net with 20 minutes remaining and said he had repaid the faith Brentford Manager Uwe Rösler had shown in him.
“When I hit the post in the first half I was starting to think it would never happen for me here,” Bradley told The Bees Player Show.
“You have to work hard.
“The gaffer had faith in me from day one and I’m happy.
“I remember Tom Adeyemi running through and I didn’t think he’d seen me.
“But he is a good player, he found me.
“I just wanted to get my head down and hit the target.
“It went in.
“I don’t really look at the goalkeeper; I just try to aim for a corner.”
Tom Adeyemi also spoke to The Bees Player Show after the match and said it was a “massive” win.
Brentford went ahead in the first half through a bizarre goal.
Sam Saunders delivered a corner in to the box that County failed to deal with, Jonathan Douglas laid it back to Toumani Diagouraga and the midfield man fired in a shot that should never have beaten County goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski.
However, the goalkeeper failed to get his body behind the ball; it slipped through his hands and rolled over the line.
The visitors pulled a goal back when they were awarded a penalty soon after Brentford’s second.
Alan Judge went down under the slightest contact from Jake Bidwell and referee Andy D’Urso awarded a penalty after his assistant signalled a foul.
Simon Moore saved the spot kick from Jamal Campbell-Ryce but Judge reacted quickest of the five Notts County players that had encroached in to the penalty area before the ball was struck to smash home.
County piled on the pressure after their goal but Brentford got the win.
“It is a massive three points for us,” said Tom.
“At this stage of the season it is all about the result.
“We have to win our home games and to be able to do that was very pleasing.
“I couldn’t see if it was a penalty or not.
“But when that happens it gives them a chance.
“They got the momentum and it became a backs-to-the-wall job.
“We haven’t had many games where we have won comfortably.
“We always seem to defend for our lives in the final five to ten minutes.
“It would be nice to go two or three up and relax at the end of the game.”
Bradley said Brentford showed experience to get over the line.
“There will always be a time in the game where they are on top, they are a good team, we held them off,” he said.
“I thought we showed great experience
“It is a young team here.
“We resisted a good footballing team and that is a great credit to us.”
Brentford started with a diamond midfield to combat County’s five across the middle.
Tom said The Bees knew they had to win that battle to win the game.
“They have a strong midfield,” he said.
“Alan Judge drops in, Andre Boucaud, Neal Bishop and players like that.
“Before the game the manager spoke to the midfield we would be crucial in this game.
“We had to dominate them and over the 90 minutes we just about did.
“We were able to win the game.”
Tom said he felt he had played better in the second half of the season than he did in the first.
The midfield man has been on loan at Griffin Park from Norwich City for the campaign and said a lack of pre-season affected him at the start of the season.
“I feel in the second half of the season I have raised my game,” he said.
“I came here without doing a pre-season because of a foot injury.
“I didn’t hit the ground running as I would have liked, it took me a while to get going.
“I had a couple of little set-backs with injury.
“Now, coming to the end of the season, I feel good in every game and hopefully I can continue to contribute.”
A crowd of more than 7,400 saw the win at Griffin Park and Bradley said they helped The Bees get the win.
“The crowd was quality from minute one,” he said.
“We had a bad patch but they stuck with us.
“We saw it through for them.”
Brentford climbed to third in npower League One with the win.
They are level on points with AFC Bournemouth in second, having played two games fewer, and two points behind leaders Doncaster Rovers with a game in hand.
“The pleasing thing is that we have games in hand on most of the other teams,” said Tom.
“If we were to win all our games, no-one could stop us.
“It is very tight and will go to the wire.
“Hopefully we will be there to the end.
“The opportunity is there for us but there are probably four or five other teams thinking the same.
“If we can keep grinding out results, we will be there or thereabouts.”
Brentford’s next match is against Milton Keynes Dons tomorrow, Easter Monday, and Bradley and Tom agreed it was a “massive” game.
“We need to win the next game,” said Bradley.
“We have to do the same thing we did today.
“Every result is massive.
“All the boys know that.
“We will be alright.
“All the boys in the dressing room can play football; there are some good young players.
“They go out without fear.
“They carry the team through.
“The youth in the team is bringing us through.
“They go and play.”
Tom added: “Monday is a massive game.
“Even though they aren’t performing as they would like, they are still one of the best football teams in the league.
“It will be a really tough game but one where we find out where we will be.”
