Development Squad striker Antonio German has joined npower League Two promotion chasers Gillingham on loan.

The 21-year-old forward, who is on a Development Squad contract at Griffin Park, has linked up with the Kent club today and will stay with The Gills until April 1.

Gillingham currently top npower League Two with 13 games remaining and Antonio will be available for their next nine games as they seek promotion.

Ose Aibangee, Brentford Academy Director, said: “This is a great opportunity for Antonio to go out and play football at the top of League Two.

“Gillingham are at the top of League Two and every game will be a big one for them, it will be a great experience for Antonio to go in to a pressurised atmosphere and play a good standard of football.

“Antonio has had some time in the First Team this season, scoring an important goal, and has played well at Under-21 level.

“He can now go out and play more First Team football at a good level.”

Antonio joined Queens Park Rangers as a schoolboy and turned professional in 2009, making his debut on the final day of the 2008/09 season.

He played 20 games for the Shepherd’s Bush side, scoring three times, and had loan spells at Aldershot Town, Southend United and Yeovil Town before he left QPR in August 2011 and signed for Stockport County.

Antonio left Stockport in January 2012 when his contract expired and had been playing for Bromley on a non-contract basis before agreeing terms with Brentford towards the end of last season.

He is still part of the Club’s Development Squad but has made four substitute appearances for the First Team this season to add to the two he made last season.

He also scored his first Brentford goal – the equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Preston North End in November 2012.
