Youth Team defender Richard Bryan has missed out on an award for his work at the other end of the pitch.
The 17-year-old – who normally plays at right back or centre back for The Bees in the Under-18 Professional Development League – was nominated for the League Football Education Goal of the Month award for January.
Clubs put forward their best goals scored by Youth Team players at Football League clubs every month, whether in the Professional Development League or Football League Youth Alliance, and Richard’s goal in the 5-5 draw with Swansea City on January 12 was named in the top eight.
Richard scored two in the game, including a late equaliser to make it 5-5, but it is his first goal on that afternoon – which made it 3-3 just before half time – that was nominated.
However, Alex Jakubiak, from Watford, won the vote and took the prize.
Richard’s goal was the fourth most popular, out of eight, in the voting.
