Brentford has teamed up with Fantasy Football Scout to help bring you hints, tips and advice throughout the 2026/27 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season.

Scout will use its expertise to provide information, advice and gameweek tips that could help you stay on top of your mini-leagues

Best of the Bees

Keith Andrews’ side started the new campaign brilliantly, racing into a three-goal lead over Tottenham Hotspur by the 50th minute.

Highlighted in last week’s article for his huge potential to regularly gain defensive contributions (DefCon) points, new signing Mamadou Sangaré (£5.5m) not only delivered that on his debut but also assisted twice.

The 24-year-old’s swift one-two with Dango Ouattara (£6.5m) led to a cutback for Keane Lewis-Potter’s (£5.5m) opener.

Vitaly Janelt (£5.0m) pounced on a rebound to double the lead after Mathias Jensen’s (£5.5m) initial shot. Janelt, like Sangaré and Kristoffer Ajer (£4.5m), also reached FPL’s DefCon threshold.

Then, early in the second half, Antonín Kinský (£4.5m) could only parry Sangaré’s effort into the path of Michael Kayode (£4.5m), who converted from close range.

So, when Igor Thiago (£8.0m) uncharacteristically saw his penalty hit the post, there were no consequences for the result. It merely disappointed 1.5 million Fantasy owners.

The Spotlight

Just one short of Sangaré's 14-point haul was Kayode. While fellow defenders Ajer and Nathan Collins (£5.5m) had chances to add a goal to their clean sheet, Kayode put himself in the right place at the right time.

It was a dominant evening for the Bees. Their 13 set-piece attempts alone exceeded the total shot count recorded by half of the Premier League’s teams in Gameweek 1. They also outshot Spurs 20-4 for efforts inside the penalty area; four of the latter came from Kayode.

Furthermore, he was last season’s leading defender for take-ons (107) and successful long throws into the box (38).

Best of the Rest

Gameweek 1’s biggest scorers were Brighton duo Maxim De Cuyper (£4.5m) and Jack Hinshelwood (£6.0m), on 17 and 16 points. The Seagulls were 4-0 up against Aston Villa by half-time, as FPL defender De Cuyper starred on the left wing.

At that stage on Saturday, play-off winners Hull City found themselves two-up at home to Manchester United, thanks to centre-backs Semi Ajayi (£4.0m) and Nobel Mendy (£4.0m).

The Tigers held on to that score, meaning that highly selected Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) and Bryan Mbeumo (£8.0m) blanked, as did Manchester City pair Erling Haaland (£15.5m) and Antoine Semenyo (£8.5m).

Instead, Marc Guéhi (£6.0m) and Joško Gvardiol (£5.5m) rescued the Cityzens against Bournemouth.

In Demand

Not on the scoresheet, left-back Riccardo Calafiori (£5.5m) assisted 2026/27’s opening goal on Friday night, making him one of the most bought individuals ahead of Friday’s 6.30pm BST deadline.

Arsenal’s second was soon set up by Christos Tzolis (£6.5m), someone responsible for seven pre-season assists, after doing it 23 times during his final Club Brugge campaign. Also popular is team-mate Martin Ødegaard (£6.5m), who made it 3-0.

Then, on Monday, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer (£9.5m) and João Pedro (£7.5m) registered double-digit tallies.

Sangaré and De Cuyper join these on many watchlists.

Captaincy

Despite upsetting their owners at the weekend, expect most Gameweek 2 armbands to remain on either Haaland or Fernandes - last season’s best two FPL players.

While this was the first time that Haaland failed to score on a City opening day, upcoming opponents Crystal Palace are experiencing a difficult summer.

As for Fernandes, he still found a way to have three chances and set up three more in Hull. Next up, a home meeting with another promoted side, Ipswich Town.
