Frank Onyeka has completed a permanent transfer to Coventry City for an undisclosed fee.

The Nigeria international midfielder initially joined Frank Lampard’s side on loan in February, helping the Sky Blues win the Sky Bet Championship title and secure a Premier League return for the first time in 25 years.

Onyeka departs Brentford having made 87 appearances across all competitions after signing from Danish side Midtjylland in July 2021.

Director of football Phil Giles said: "Frank has been with us since our first Premier League game, and has always shown fantastic commitment, work rate and loyalty during his time here.

"Ultimately, he probably didn’t start as many games as he’d have liked, which is why the opportunity for him to move to Coventry made sense for all parties.

"He made a big contribution to their promotion and has earned his chance at becoming a regular Premier League starter with them. Frank will always be welcome back at Brentford and we wish him well for next season with Coventry."

Onyeka was Brentford’s first signing of the Premier League era and regularly featured during the first half of the season, helping the Bees to a 13th-place finish, and represented Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.

He went on to make 23 appearances during the 2022/23 campaign and registered two assists.

In the middle of the 2023/24 season - during which he scored his only goal for the club, against Sheffield United in April 2024 - he departed for AFCON again and, this time, came home with a runners-up medal after Nigeria were beaten 2-1 by Ivory Coast in the final.

Onyeka spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Augsburg and played 31 times in the Bundesliga.

The 28-year-old made nine appearances for the Bees in the first half of last term before joining the Sky Blues on loan in February, playing 14 times and scoring once.

Onyeka could make his return to Gtech Community Stadium with Coventry in February 2027, while the Bees are scheduled to visit the CBS Arena in their final fixture of 2026.
