Ethan Pinnock has joined Coventry City on a permanent deal.

The defender departs Brentford following seven seasons in west London. He played a pivotal role in the Bees’ promotion to the Premier League and subsequent success in the top flight.

Pinnock made 216 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 12 goals.

“Ethan is a Brentford legend,” said director of football Phil Giles.

“He was part of a fantastic group of players we signed in the summer of 2019 who elevated us from a mid-table Championship team to a side that could genuinely challenge for promotion.

“Without Ethan, there would be no guarantee we’d be where we are now, so for that reason he’ll always be welcome back at Brentford at any time.

“He now has the chance of a good contract at Coventry, who we have a lot of time and respect for after their recent promotion, so we wish Ethan and his new club well for this season and beyond.”

Head coach Keith Andrews added: “Ethan is someone I always admired from afar because of the journey he went on to become a Premier League footballer.

“He has been one of the modern-day greats of the club and I have always appreciated him for the qualities he has as a player and a man.

“We will miss him, but I sincerely wish him well in his next chapter.”

Pinnock joined Brentford from Barnsley in July 2019 and made 40 appearances during his first campaign, which culminated in a Championship play-off final defeat to Fulham at Wembley Stadium.

He was a key figure as the club went one better the following season, helping the Bees secure promotion to the Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Swansea City on his 28th birthday.

Pinnock’s performances during the promotion-winning campaign earned him a place in the 2020/21 PFA Championship Team of the Year.

That season also saw Pinnock earn the first of his 28 caps for Jamaica.

Pinnock’s Premier League debut came in August 2021, when Brentford beat Arsenal 2-0 on the opening day of the campaign.

He would go on to play 35 games in all competitions, scoring against Liverpool during a 3-3 draw at Gtech Community Stadium.

A knee injury ruled Pinnock out of the whole of the 2022/23 pre-season and the first nine matches of the campaign, but he featured in every remaining Premier League fixture.

He played 30 Premier League games the following season, and his performances were rewarded with the Brentford Supporters’ Player of the Year award.

Pinnock made a further 31 appearances across his final two seasons with the club, scoring twice during the 2024/25 campaign.
