Brentford defender Benjamin Arthur has joined Sky Bet Championship side Portsmouth on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old, who spent the second half of last term in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic, will continue his development at Fratton Park in 2026/27.

A product of Peterborough United’s academy, Arthur signed for Brentford B in August 2023 and excelled for the young Bees across the following two campaigns.

Following the second of those, he was recognised with the Under-21s Player of the Year award after playing a pivotal role in a side that won the Under-21 Professional Development League and reached the final of the Premier League Cup.

In July 2025, he was promoted to the first team and penned a new long-term contract with the club.

Arthur made his senior debut two months later, impressing in a Carabao Cup win against Aston Villa at Gtech Community Stadium.

He started a 5-0 victory against Grimsby Town in the same competition a month later, before featuring as a substitute in a 2-0 FA Cup win against Sheffield Wednesday in January.

The centre-back completed a move to Celtic on deadline day of the winter transfer window and made six appearances in all competitions as Martin O’Neill’s side secured a league and Scottish FA Cup double.

Eligible to represent both Ghana and England, Arthur has previously been capped by the Three Lions at under-18s, U19s and U20s level.
