Brentford have completed the loan signing of Leicester City left back Callum Elder. The Australian youth international finalised the move yesterday, Friday 29 July, and trained with The Bees ahead of the pre-season match against Millwall today. He will spend the entire 2016/17 season at Griffin Park, although there is a clause to end the loan in January. Callum will wear the number three shirt.

Callum, 21, came through the youth ranks at Leicester, turning professional at the Premier League champions when he was 18. The Sydney-born defender made his professional debut during a half-season loan spell at Mansfield Town in 2015. He then spent the first half last season on loan at Peterborough United, scoring his first professional goal and playing 18 Sky Bet League One matches. He has played once for Australia at Under-20 level.

Dean Smith, Brentford FC Head Coach, said: “Callum is an attacking full back. He comes highly recommended and I believe there is further development in him. He is also a player that can improve the squad now.

“Callum came to my attention when he played for Peterborough against my Walsall team. He did very well that day and I have been watching him ever since although it was unfortunate he had to cut short that loan spell due to injury. I am pleased to welcome him to Brentford.”
