Brentford Women ended Hammersmith FC's two-season unbeaten streak at home with an emphatic 7-2 win on the road in the LSE Premier Division on Sunday afternoon.

Ashley Cheatley scored a hat-trick and Maddie Phillips scored a brace featuring a wonder-strike as Carly Williams' side made it four wins in a row at the start of the campaign. Goals from Abbi Smith and Wiktoria Kiszkis made sure the three points went the short distance home with Brentford.

The Bees started on the front foot with Millie Constantine firing in two dangerous crosses from the left that had the Hammersmith back-line under instant scrutiny.

The early pressure paid off when Cheatley put Brentford ahead on seven minutes. The move started with Imogen Cochrane finding a great left-footed pass out to Constantine. She played the ball into Katie Gilligan who found Cheatley on her back-foot, taking her touch into the box and firing past Elisa Dogor to make it 1-0.

Constantine was causing all kinds of problems; on 11 minutes Rhian Cleverly set her free with a big diagonal pass with the winger riding a tackle, driving to the byline and winning a corner from her pull back. Phillips had a strike go wide from the resulting short set-piece.

Gilligan was immense in the centre of the park, popping up all over the pitch with intelligent incisions into the Hammersmith half and important interceptions.

Cheatley and Brentford doubled their lead on 23 minutes; Makeba Black's long-throw from the right side wasn't dealt with and Cheatley fired home her half-volley to give Brentford a two-goal advantage.

Four minutes later and the west Londoners had a third, with Cheatley involved again. She broke into the box and was scythed to the ground following a clever touch, and Phillips stepped up to bury her second penalty in as many weeks to make it 3-0.

Abbi Smith had a curling shot from range saved well by Dobor after a sweeping Bees move found her in space on the right, with Williams' side playing some scintillating stuff.

Mya Francis-Pownall had little to do in the first-half, but made a fantastic reaction save at her near post as Laila Ayimba broke into the box and hit a well-struck left footed-effort that would have snuck in.

The Hammers had their best spell as half-time approached, but Brentford stood resolute and went into the break with a three-goal buffer.

Hammersmith came out the blocks fast and had a goal back on 49 minutes when Rachel Anderson broke through on the transition and had plenty of time to make up her mind before slotting past Francis-Pownall to make it 3-1.

Gilligan had a chance to restore the three-goal lead instantly, but hit her effort with too much power after the ball fell kindly inside the penalty area.

It was Hammersmith who scored next though on 57 minutes as Anderson capitalised on a loose pass from Francis-Pownall and tucked home to cut the Brentford lead to just one with over half an hour to play.

Just as the game was becoming tense, Phillips scored a goal-of-the-season contender to give the Bees some breathing space. With Williams' side temporarily down to 10 as Cheatley received treatment, Phillips picked out the top-right corner from 40 plus yards, lobbing Dogor who she had spotted off her line to score an incredible fourth goal.

Saskia Reeves-Priestley made her first appearance of the season, coming off the bench to get valuable minutes between the sticks.

It became a real battle all over the pitch, with the intensity rising by the minute. That told for the home side, who played a sloppy back pass towards Dobor which Cheatley intercepted, rounding the keeper and tapping home her hat-trick to make it 5-2 with 15 to play.

Georgie Giddings, who epitimised the fighting spirit all afternoon, made a vital challenge as Ayimba found space in the box to keep it comfortable.

Smith got in on the action after another fine individual display, firing a left footed strike across the keeper after a deep cross from Wiktoria Kiszkis to add a sixth.

Kiszkis then rounded off the win with a deserved goal of her own on 85 minutes, after excellent work from Chelsie Berry. Her hold-up play enabled Gilligan to feed in the Bees' no.9 who found the bottom left-corner to put the game to bed at 7-2.

After a shaky start to the second half, it was ultimately a resounding win from Brentford, who subjected Hammersmith to defeat on their home ground for the first time in over two seasons.

Four wins from four to start the LSE Premier campaign, with the next test a trip to Barking Women on Sunday 13 September (3pm kick-off BST).

Brentford Women head coach Carly Williams reflected on her side's 7-2 win over previously unbeaten Hammersmith.

"We always knew it was going to be a tough game and we had to respect our opponents," she said.

"We had to adjust things to get control back after we conceded the two goals. All credit to Hammersmith for making it difficult during that period.

"It's really important for us to get these statement wins. We had good control in the first half, then in the second half we had to stick to our football and what we know.

"We were organised, we were free flowing in our shape in and out of possession and our big characters and leaders really helped us today."
