Sam Saunders' Brentford Under-21s travel to Yorkshire on Friday 23 January, as they take on Barnsley Under-21s in the Professional Development League (1pm kick-off GMT).

The young Bees are looking to return to winning ways after defeat in their last league outing against Millwall.

Brentford will play their second game of the week when they take on Barnsley and the attention will be focused on securing their ninth league win of the season.

About Barnsley U21s

Barnsley sit 16th in the league table, with three wins, five draws and seven losses to their name.

The home side have struggled in recent weeks, with only one victory in their last five games.

The young Tykes' only game of 2026 so far saw them suffer a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Peterborough United.

Last time out

Saunders' side were dominant in their last outing but suffered defeat to Millwall, losing 2-1 at Wheatsheaf Park in what was only their fifth defeat this season.

Millwall scored a goal in each half as Caleb Redhead and William Wright put the away side ahead with two goals.

Josh Stephenson rose highest to score against his former team and give the Bees hope, as he powered a header past Joel Coleman, who made a number of saves to keep out the west London side on the day.

With the momentum firmly in Brentford's favour, Theo Mawene was given his marching orders for a late high tackle, which immediately fizzled out any attempts of an equaliser.
