Brentford defender Alfie Mawson has signed for Barnsley after rejecting the Club’s offer of a new two-year deal.

The 21-year-old played 45 league games - scoring six goals - for Wycombe Wanderers on loan in League Two. He helped The Chairboys reach the Play-Off Final at Wembley Stadium last month, which they lost to Southend United on penalties.

After signing professional forms in the summer of 2012 following a two-year scholarship, he spent time on loan at Maidenhead United, Luton Town and Welling United. Alfie made one First Team appearance, as a 73rd minute substitute for Sam Saunders in Brentford’s Capital One Cup tie at Derby County in August 2013.

The Club are in discussions with Barnsley regarding a compensation package in relation to Alfie’s training and development. The Club wishes Alfie every success in his future career.
