Alan McCormack said he was delighted to sign a new Brentford contract and wanted to be part of a Sky Bet Championship club on the up.
The 30-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, signed a new deal to keep him at Griffin Park until the end of the 2015/16 season yesterday, Friday September 19.
The contract also includes a Club option for an additional year.
Alan has been a regular since signing from Swindon Town last summer.
He has played 52 games in all competitions for The Bees, scoring two goals.
“I am delighted,” said Alan, speaking to Bees Player yesterday.
“We have been speaking for a little bit.
“I was told there would be discussions in September.
“I am delighted it has been done.
“When a player gets to 30 they start to think about being 35 and possible retirement so every contract is important.
“I am thinking about what to do after.
“To get a two-year deal at a Championship club on the up, I am delighted.
“I want to be a part of where the Club is going.”
Brentford won promotion in Alan’s first season at Griffin Park, finishing second in Sky Bet League One.
The Bees have started the Championship season with just two defeats in seven games and have 11 points.
They had won three of four games before losing to Norwich City on Tuesday.
Alan said the Club was set up for life in the second tier, or even beyond.
“Everything we have here is more than Championship quality,” he said.
“The pitches, gym, facilities are all at that level.
“The set-up is great for the players; the lads get what we need.
“We have settled really well in the Championship and don’t look like a side that has just been promoted.
“We fancy ourselves to cause an upset this year.”
Alan was named Brentford Supporters’ Player of the Year for his performances in the promotion-winning season.
He said he has grown in to the Championship campaign and had loved every minute of it so far.
“I have grown in to the season,” he said.
“It has taken a bit to get going, to get the full match sharpness that you get seven or eight games in to a season.
“It is quicker at this level on the counter attack and you don’t get as much time on the ball.
“I have loved every minute of it.
“The stadiums are bigger, the crowds are bigger – you saw the excitement at our ground against Norwich on Tuesday.
“It has been a whirlwind few months and I am enjoying it.”
Alan also had some words for the Brentford fans ahead of the longest trip of the season, to Middlesbrough
“The support last year was great, particularly away from home, not going to the greatest grounds,” he said.
“It has been the same this year; we know it’s not cheap.
“The players do appreciate it.
“If we can take a few hundred with us tomorrow that make a bit of noise it does have an impact.
“We love to make people happy that have travelled to see it.”
