Adam Forshaw said Brentford deserved their 2-1 victory over Notts County.
The Bees beat their fellow promotion chasers at Meadow Lane, coming from a goal down.
Adam, who scored Brentford’s equaliser, said the players believed the winner, scored by Clayton Donaldson, would come.
“We think we deserved it,” he said.
“We pushed and pushed in the second half; we penned them back and played some good stuff.
“It was getting late but we believed we would get a winner and you need that if you are going to get up.
“They played us to their game at the start, got a lot of crossed in, won corners.
“I think that’s what they like to do.
“After we weathered that, we stuck at it, changed our formation and when we got the goal it was a matter of time before we got another.”
Adam scored Brentford’s first goal when Marcello Trotta put him through.
He beat the offside trap and lashed a shot in to the bottom corner.
It was his second goal of the season and he said Manager Uwe Rösler had been encouraging him to get his name on the score sheet.
“The manager has been on at me, telling me it is my time to score goals,” said Adam.
“I have been trying to believe him and luckily enough I got the goal today.
“He has put faith in me and I hope to chip in with more.
“I knew Marcello would put it in a good area.
“When he gave it to me I wanted to get a good contact.
“Luckily it went in.”
Brentford scored their winner in the 88th minute, the seventh time in 22 League One games they have won points with goals in the last five minutes.
“It’s a good habit to have,” said Adam.
“A lot of good teams score late goals.
“Once we got the goal I didn’t feel we would concede.
“Clayton is in great form.
“Those sort of chances come and a sniffer will put them in, he did it for us.”
The Bees have won their last four games, beating Swindon Town, Sheffield United and Milton Keynes Dons, who are seventh, third and fifth in the table respectively before the win over Notts County, who started the day in seventh.
They face Stevenage, who are sixth, next week before three games in six days over the Christmas and New Year period.
“We have beaten the better teams in the league,” said Adam.
“It is looking promising.
“We need to be ready for Christmas.
“Anyone can beat anyone in this league.
Adam paid tribute to almost 600 Brentford fans who travelled to Nottingham for the match.
“It was fantastic,” he said.
“With them behind us, it pushed us on.
“It gave us belief, all the clapping and singing.”
