Aaron Greene said it was nice to get some match minutes under his belt after playing the first half of Brentford’s win over Hampton and Richmond Borough last night.
Aaron scored the winner for a Brentford XI in a 2-1 win over the Ryman League side last night.
The Bees used 22 players in the match, fielding different teams in each half.
Aaron played in the first half side that led 2-0 at the break.
He scored the second goal after Jan Holldack had put Brentford in front and that was enough to ensure The Bees won despite a better performance in the second half from the hosts.
Aaron said he thought 45 minutes was the right amount of match time for him and it was nice to be playing.
He said he wanted to build up his fitness as the pre-season went on.
“It was really nice to get back playing,” said the left back.
“It has been a few months since we had a game, a good three months since a competitive game.
“It is nice to get some minutes under your belt.
“I think 45 minutes was enough.
“You can get your legs going and we will get more minutes as we go along.
“Playing is different to training.
“I have spent the last week thinking I was fit but playing a match is different.
“You do more running in a game, it is much harder.”
Aaron said it was nice to get a goal having not scored in 25 games in the Under-21 Professional Development League last season.
Brentford were one up when he picked up a goal kick inside the centre circle, weaved forward and in to the box before slotting home.
Aaron said Brentford played well in the first half and he was pleased with the performance.
“In a pre-season game, early on in the season, you get what you can out of the game and hopefully you all have a good game,” he said.
“It was nice to score a goal, it has been a while.
“It fell nicely and as I got in to stride they were split, I got in to the box and it went in.
“Everyone played well in the first half, we had new lads and as a team we did well.”
