Pontus Jansson's Sweden exit EURO 2020

Swedes beaten late in Glasgow

30 June 2021

There was late disappointment for Sweden at EURO 2020 as they exited the competition at the round of 16 stage as they were beaten by Ukraine.

The match went all the way to stoppage time in extra-time as Artem Dovbyk struck with a header to give Ukraine a 2-1 win at Hampden Park in Glasgow.

Oleksander Zinchenko’s goal just before the half hour mark was cancelled out by Sweden’s Emil Forsberg’s deflected effort in the first half. Sweden were then reduced to 10 men as Marcus Danielson was sent off in extra-time. With the match looking like it was set for a penalty shootout, Ukraine made their one man advantage count as they found the net dramatically.

Pontus Jansson was involved in the match day squad but remained on the bench for the match. Ukraine will now progress to face England in the Quarter-Finals.
