Samantha Read joined Brentford Women’s First team after a diverse and accomplished football journey, both in England and abroad.

Read began playing football at age 11, overcoming the challenge of finding local girls’ teams. Her talent was quickly recognised, earning her a place in a Centre of Excellence and then York City Ladies from 16 to 18. Samantha's passion for the game took her to the U.S. on a football scholarship, where she spent four years honing her skills.

Upon returning to the UK, Read signed with a local team before making her mark at Brentford in 2023. Known for her physicality, vision, and leadership on the pitch, Samantha balances her football career with her role in the Stadium Operations Team at Brentford FC. Her versatility extends beyond football, as she also plays American football, a testament to her love for sport.

One of Samantha’s proudest moments came when she walked out at the Gtech Community Stadium, reflecting on how far she’s come since playing as a young girl. Her goals for the future include leading Brentford to promotion and inspiring the next generation of female footballers. As she says, “Don’t let anyone tell you can’t.”

With Brentford and women’s football on the rise, Samantha hopes to be part of a movement that will inspire more girls to pursue their passion for the game.
