Ben Winterbottom started his career at Blackburn Rovers, progressing through the club’s academy, while training alongside former Bee David Raya.
He then joined Liverpool where he featured for their under-19s.
Following Liverpool’s trip to the Club World Cup in December 2019, manager Jürgen Klopp decided to give his academy players minutes in the Carabao Cup. Winterbottom was an unused substitute for Liverpool as the Reds lost 5-0 to Aston Villa in the quarter-final.
Having represented the Liverpool academy up to U23 level, Winterbottom joined Brentford B in January 2021.
In doing so, Winterbottom became the second Brentford player in his family, as his great grandad played a game for the Bees during the First World War while stationed with the army in London.
In August 2023, Winterbottom made a loan move to National League South side Welling United in pursuit of more first-team football for the 2023/24 season.
He played 14 games for Welling, keeping two clean sheets, before being recalled by Brentford in January 2024.
At the end of the season, along with Ji-soo Kim, Winterbottom was promoted to the first team for the 2024/25 campaign.
