Stronger together

At Brentford, we recognise that one incident of racism in football, whether that’s involving a fan, a player, or staff member is one too many.

To support the club’s ongoing commitment to tackling discrimination, we have introduced the Stronger Together educational resource for our community and schools programme, which is delivered by Brentford FC Community Sports Trust.

This toolkit includes animated video content based on key actions, which align with the club’s values of Respectful, Togetherness and Progressive.

Stronger together

We encourage our community and all football supporters to help make progress towards tackling racism and celebrating our diversity. The actions explored in the video are based on the following:

Show respect

Respect is the foundation of a thriving football culture. It goes beyond tolerance and requires recognising the dignity of every individual, regardless of their race or ethnic background.

In football, it means challenging racism when we see or hear it, treating others with kindness. We aim to create an environment where everyone — whether player, coach, fan, or staff — can fully enjoy the game without fear of racial prejudice or exclusion.

Stand together

Standing together means being allies with one another. In the context of racial equity, allyship is more than just support — it is an ongoing commitment to standing alongside those affected by racism and actively working towards change.

Being an ally means using your privilege, voice, and influence on challenging racial injustice, amplifying voices of minoritised ethnicities and creating a culture of inclusion so everybody can enjoy the game.

Celebrate diversity

Football is a global game that brings together people from diverse racial, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. In the Premier League’s 33-year history, players have represented 126 different countries. In the 2024/25 season alone, 62 nationalities have been represented amongst all clubs’ players.

By celebrating this diversity, we not only recognise the contributions of players, coaches, and fans from all walks of life, but we also create a richer and more inclusive footballing experience. Ethnic diversity strengthens teams, creates innovation, and encourages understanding.

True celebration of diversity involves inclusion in our policies, practices, and everyday interactions. When we acknowledge and appreciate the value of different perspectives and backgrounds, we build stronger, more united communities both on and off the pitch.

Stand against

If we are silent in the face of racial discrimination, we allow it to persist. Being an active bystander means recognising when racial discrimination occurs and taking the appropriate action to challenge it. This could involve calling out racism, offering support to those affected, or reporting incidents to the relevant authorities.

Progress happens when individuals take responsibility for ensuring that discriminatory behaviour has no place in our stadiums, teams or communities.

Be the change

Learning about racial equity is an ongoing process that requires continuous reflection and action. Being the change means committing to educating yourself, challenging unconscious biases and applying new knowledge to actively contribute to a fairer footballing environment.

This might mean having more conversations about people's experiences, actively listening and reflecting on our own biases and contributions to racism. Whether through attending workshops, or reading relevant books or advocating for change, every action —big or small — contributes to progress.
