Zain Westbrooke gave his reaction to Bees Player after Brentford’s Youth Team edged past Charlton Athletic and cemented their third place in the U18 Professional Development League Two South.
“It’s a good mood in the dressing room,” said Zain.
“That was probably one of the hardest games we’ve had this season – we knew it was going to be – we fought right till the end, [there were] a few sloppy moments in the game but we’re very excited at the moment.”
Having taken the lead twice, Brentford were pegged back before Bradley Clayton snatched a late winner.
“We’ve battled it out, and shown a difference side to us,” said Zain.
“Because in the last two games, we’ve played some good stuff but we haven’t been challenged a lot, but today, we really got put under a lot of pressure.
“The game was ebbing and swaying, and dealt with it really well.”
Charlton’s game plan was expected by Zain.
“You know what Charlton are going to give you when you play against them,” said Zain.
“It’s if you can stand up and deal with it, and if think we did that really well.
“A lot of first years played, especially the boys that came off the bench, really helped us today.
“The more time we have on the ball, the less they can harm us.
“Sometimes that’s our downfall; we concede through our mistakes, not the other team doing well.
“The more we controlled the game, the easier we made it for ourselves.”
