Audrius Laucys was pleased with the victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday morning even if he believes there is still room for improvement.
The Bees made it three wins in four Under-18 Professional Development League Two South matches with a 2-0 win over Forest at the Nigel Doughty Academy.
A Kingsley Eshun brace either side of half-time was enough to secure the three points for Anthony Hayes’ side.
Speaking to Bees Player after the game defender Audrius Laucys said there was a great mood in the dressing room following the win.
The 17-year-old thought The Bees defensive strength formed the basis for the win and felt his side could have been better in possession.
“Everyone is buzzing in the dressing room and everyone was really happy about the win,” said Audrius.
“First ten minutes before we got the goal I think everyone was a bit nervous.
“When we scored everyone relaxed a bit.
“In the second-half I think it was more equal but we were better in possession and out of possession so I think we were worth the three points.
“I think Nik Tzanev had a really good game and was probably man of the match.
“It really helps when there is good communication between the back four and the goalkeeper.
“Our in possession work wasn’t as good as we would have wanted but we are still improving.
“There are things to work on but three points are three points.”
Audrius’ start to the season has been affected by an injury picked up in pre-season limiting him to a bit-part role thus far.
Saturday was the Lithuanian youth international’s first 90 minutes of the season and Audrius felt he grew into the game as it went on.
The central-defender was delighted with the clean sheet and equally delighted to get his first 90 minutes under his belt.
“It is my first clean sheet this season and my first 90 minutes,” said Audrius.
“I am very happy with things because the start of the season hasn’t been that good.
“I went to the Milk Cup and got injured when I came back.
“Now I am getting stronger again and it was a good clean sheet in my first 90 minutes.
“My leg still feels a bit sore and I struggled a bit in the first-half as I was a bit nervous.
“Second-half I got into it more and I am happy with that.
“I got into the game and was dealing with the long balls well.”
The win over Nottingham Forest kept The Bees top of the Under-18 Professional Development League Two South with 17 points from nine games.
Having struggled in the previous two seasons Audrius said it is a good change to be at the top of the league this time round.
The defender said that the players do look at the table to see how they are doing but that they are still focused on performances over results.
“We are always checking the league table,” said Audrius.
“We are really happy because last year we were struggling but this year we are at the top of the table.
“We are looking at the league table and sometimes the coaches tell us to forget the league table and just go out to win.
“The aim is to win the league but as coaches and players we don’t look at the league table as much as we look at our performances.
“We need to perform well and then we can look at the league table and other scores.”
Next up for The Bees is a trip to fellow high-flyers Cardiff City on Saturday morning.
Audrius believes that Saturday’s game will be one of their biggest so far this season.
The defender is hoping to get another 90 minutes under his belt on his way towards Development Squad in the coming months.
“Next week will be the biggest game for us this season so far apart from QPR,” said Audrius.
“It will be a good challenge for us.
“I am looking forward to getting back into training and making sure I keep my spot.
“Hopefully I can get another 90 minutes and keep working hard to stay in the team.
“When I get stronger and back to my best I want to look to move up to Under-21s.
“I feel like I am getting stronger every day and hopefully in the next month or two I can be get into the Under-21 squad.”
