Youth Team midfielder James Ferry believes that Brentford are deservedly one of the sides to make the Under-18 Professional Development League Two play-offs at the end of April.
The Bees secured their place in the top two with a 4-1 win over Cardiff City last Saturday to pick up a seventh win in eight matches.
Jon De Souza’s side have scored the most goals in the league this season and have the best defensive record and James believes that shows they more than deserve their place in the end of season play-offs.
Speaking to Bees Player James said: “We are really happy to have made the play-offs.
“It is a good achievement for us and hopefully we can show the teams from the other league that we are the best team overall.
“I think the quality of the players has been better this year than it has been previously and we just know how to win games.
“We go into games now not only thinking we should be winning but thinking that we should be the team that deserves to win.
“We are getting results but we are getting them deservedly.
“We have been playing really well recently.
“We have been dominating games and not just getting results.
“We have been dominating games and then winning.
“The recent results have been a fair reflection.
“If you are good enough you want to grind them into the dirt and then get the result.”
With three games of the season remaining Brentford have 49 points from their 24 matches, 11 clear of the only team who can deny them top spot Charlton Athletic.
The Addicks have three games in hand on Jon De Souza’s side but would be powerless to prevent Brentford winning the league should The Bees pick up maximum points from their remaining matches.
James feels that Brentford deserve to win the league this season as they have been the best team.
The 17-year-old midfielder added that although Brentford don’t fear anyone they may meet in the play-offs they will respect them when it comes to the knock-out matches.
“The main aim is to win the league because we don’t want to come second,” said James.
“There is no reason for us to come second because we think we are good enough to win the next three matches and then come top.
“We definitely feel that we are the best side in the league and we should have no worries about the teams that we are about to play.
“We won’t take any team we get in the play-offs lightly and we will respect every team that we play.
“We won’t fear anyone but rather go out like we do against every team and try to play to our best and win.
“Jon De Souza always talks about challenges and it would be another challenge to win the league.
“It would show that we could compete in a competitive environment which is what the first-team is.
“The first-team are looking to get into the play-offs this season so it would be great for us to mirror that in the Youth games.”
James has come back from an injury picked up at the Milk Cup to make 13 appearances this season, scoring five goals.
He is one of a number of members of the Youth Team squad who were also part of the Milk Cup winning side of 2012 as Under-16s.
With decisions being made on whether the second-year scholars will receive their first professional contracts in the coming weeks James feels the league success demonstrates the quality of player within the Youth Team group.
“As a group we have won some good tournaments and to come in the top two and then to win the league would be really good,” said James.
“It just shows that we can be on a level playing field with most teams in the country.
“As individuals that gives us a lot of confidence to keep pushing on and hopefully get as far as we can in the game either with Brentford’s first team or a first-team somewhere else.
“Individual performances are the reasons why we are winning the games.
“We feel that the 11 players who play in any game do tend to look better than the 11 that we are playing against.
“It is great to have those individual performances showing just before you get your decision and we just have to show the coaches that we are worth keeping on.
“It is a good chance to show Lee Carsley and Ose Aibangee that we can compete at Under-21 level.”
