Brentford’s Youth Team will get a chance to pit their wits against sides from the Northern division of the Under-18 Professional Development League Two as extra games are added to the fixture list.
An additional eight games, four home and four away, will be played thanks to a new extension from the Premier League, taking the games total up from 18 to 26 for Jeremy Steele’s side.
The Bees will host Sheffield Wednesday on Thursday October 10 before facing trips to Barnsley on Saturday November 16 and Leeds on Saturday April 12 with further fixtures being announced in due course.
The additional games are designed not only to give the players more competitive games but also to prepare them for the travel and overnight stays associated with playing professional football.
The U18 Professional Development League Two is for Category Two Academies according to the new Elite Player Performance Plan.
The Bees were handed a tough start to the season but have fared well with a narrow 2-1 defeat against last season’s national champions QPR followed by draws against runners-up Charlton Athletic and Brighton and Hove Albion.
Jeremy Steele’s side are next in action this Saturday against Millwall.
