Brentford’s Youth Team have a responsibility to take the Club’s philosophy in to their winner-takes-all league final tomorrow, according to one of the players trusted to do it.
Brentford will play Charlton Athletic in the Under-18 Professional Development League Two Final at Griffin Park tomorrow, Tuesday May 12.
The match will kick-off at 7pm and entry is free.
The Bees are unbeaten since January 10, a run that extends to 12 matches, and reached this stage with a win away to Huddersfield Town last month after finishing second in the southern section of the Under-18 league.
They were pipped to that title by Charlton, who won their last eight games of the regular season and made it nine victories on the spin by beating Nottingham Forest in their semi-final.
Jeremiah Kamanzi spoke to Bees Player in the build up to the game and said the players were calm.
He said they had to play as they had done all season and show the Club’s philosophy to the wider world.
“We have been very calm and collected,” said Jeremiah, an attacker who plays on either the left or right flank.
“We are in to the final preparations and confidence is high.
“We are looking to do the job and we are all in a really good mood.
“The emphasis is to play how we have throughout the season – our passing game.
“There is a responsibility on us to take the Club’s philosophy in to the game.
“We know the pressure that will be on us to play well, we all understand that.
“It is really good.”
Brentford beat Charlton home and away and Jeremiah scored the first goal in the away win.
The Bees struck early in both games.
“We have been working on finishing drills and that has been a confidence boost for me personally,” said Jeremiah.
“We have gained confidence from scoring early against Charlton in the last two meetings and want to do the same again.
“That we have beaten them twice will be good for us, they know what we are capable of doing.
“It is going really well and we want to get at them early.”
Jeremiah said he was enjoying his role in the team.
He plays either side of the front three and said he liked being in a side that plays good football and creates chances.
He said the coaching staff encourage The Bees to express themselves.
“I am enjoying my role, it is really great to be part of that attacking three,” said Jeremiah.
“It is a great confidence boost for me as an individual.
“We are trusted to go out and produce the football.
“This season we have played some great football and we have created chances.
“The emphasis is to go and play our football.”
The 17-year-old is coming to the end of the first year of his two-year scholarship at Griffin Park.
“The season has been great, there have been ups and downs but you get that in football,” he said.
“You need to have the mental attitude to carry on and find a way back in to the team.
“I have done that.
“I have come a long way.
“I have had a lot of help from the older players and I am really proud of what I have achieved this season.”
Jeremiah has called on as many Brentford fans as possible to get to the game and support the young team.
“We are really proud of what we have achieved this season,” he said.
“If the fans can give us great support we will really appreciate it.
“There will be extra pressure but it will spur us on.
“We have worked hard to get to this stage so the fans can see us play great football.
“It should be a great game.”
