Yoann Barbet said he and his teammates have no choice but to get a win tomorrow as Preston North End are the visitors to Griffin Park.
After a run of one point from four matches The Bees sit 21st in the Sky Bet Championship and Yoann has challenged the team to kick-start their season by winning their next three matches, all of which are at Griffin Park, starting with the visit of Simon Grayson’s Preston North End tomorrow.
“Three games at home are really important because we need nine points,” said Yoann, speaking to Bees Player HD ahead of the match. “At the moment the table isn’t good and we haven’t won at home yet so tomorrow we don’t have a choice: we need to get three points. It will be tough but it is part of the job. If we can just win tomorrow then we will go from there.”
Yoann made his Brentford league debut on Tuesday night in the 3-1 defeat at Middlesbrough and admitted he was disappointed with the result and with conceding three goals buy buoyed by the performance the team put in.
“I started my first game on Tuesday,” said Yoann. “I was disappointed about the score because when you are a defender and you concede three goals you are not happy but I had a good feeling. I thought we played a good game and we were unlucky but that is football. Now we have to win tomorrow.
“We should have won against Leeds United because we played a perfect first-half but in the second-half we gave away the goal. We could have drawn at Middlesbrough because the first-half was good and the second-half was not bad but they scored and that was the difference.”
Yoann joined Brentford in the summer from French Ligue 2 side Chamois Niortais on a four-year deal and believes he is adapting well to life on the other side of the channel.
The 22-year-old defender is working hard on the physical side of his game as he adapts to the fast-paced Sky Bet Championship and thanked his teammates for helping him settle quickly.
“It is good for me to play at Brentford,” said Yoann. “Tomorrow is my second league game so I hope it will be ok. It is a long season so we will see but at the moment everything is good. I like the fact that it is play game, recover in England. As a footballer that is what you want. I am working with the physios because I know that my body is not really strong at the moment. It is fine for Ligue 2 in France but here the level is much higher. I have to be strong and more physical because I am good with my feet so then I will be ready to start a lot of games.
“The players have been perfect with me. Sometimes with the language it is difficult but I have Toumani Diagouraga and Maxime Colin who can explain things to me. The lads explain things simply to me and I am really happy about that. I haven’t taught Harlee Dean any French yet but I am really happy to play with him. He has a lot of experience in the Championship so that helps me. Everybody has helped me in training. I am not shy so I try to speak to them which is good because I understand what they are trying to say on the pitch.”
