Yoann Barbet felt it was a bad day for The Bees as Charlton Athletic left Griffin Park with the three points after a 2-1 win this afternoon. Callum Harriott opened the scoring after 19 seconds but Yoann levelled the scores midway through the first-half with his first for the club. However The Bees couldn’t kick-on and Harriott grabbed his second with 20 minutes to play to take the three points.
Speaking to Bees Player after the match Yoann said: “I am very happy to score my first goal here but I would rather not score and we win the game. We didn’t play well today. We conceded a goal after about 15 seconds and you can’t start a game like that home or away. We have lost three games in a row and we have to wake up and win the big derby against Queens Park Rangers. After the goal we had to come back already and we have to be better. We came back and it was good but after we conceded the second goal we were unorganised, went too long and didn’t create chances. It was a bad day for us.”
Yoann’s 25th minute header from a deep Alan Judge corner was his first goal for The Bees since joining from Chamois Niortais in the summer. The French defender rose highest at the back post to head home and praised the work done with set-piece coach Gianni Vio.
“We work on set-pieces with Gianni Vio,” said Yoann. “I am happy for him that we scored from a set-piece but we have to do more in the rest of the game, not just from set-pieces. We knew that they conceded a lot of goals from set-pieces but we have to be stronger as a team. We have to move as a block and we didn’t do that today.”
This afternoon’s appearance was Yoann’s first in nearly a month after being sent off in the 4-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday. Yoann said it was good to be back in the starting line-up and had been working hard to get back in the starting XI since his dismissal.
“It is really good to be back,” said Yoann. “I played four games in a row until the red card stopped me. It was difficult but I worked on the training ground every day. I had to wait: today I played and scored my goal but I would rather have a clean sheet and a win than the goal.”
