Yoann Barbet can’t wait for the new Sky Bet Championship season to start after joining Brentford on a four-year deal from French side Chamois Niortais.
The 22-year-old defender was an almost ever-present for the Ligue 2 side last season after joining them from Bordeaux B in 2014.
With The Bees having just missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season, losing out to Middlesbrough in the Play-Off Semi-Final, Yoann can’t wait to get started and try and go one further this campaign.
“I have signed here for four years so I hope to play in the Premier League with Brentford,” said Yoann, speaking to Bees Player. “I want to win the title with Brentford and that could be this season or next season. It was not difficult for me to leave France. I moved away when I was 13 so it is not a problem for me to leave France. I want the season to start now and I am very happy. I am looking forward for the season to start.”
Yoann said it has always been a dream of his to play in England which he thinks has the best football league in the world.
He feels that the number of young players in the Brentford squad will only help him to settle in and bring the best out of him as a player.
“Brentford is a good opportunity for me,” said Yoann. “They are an English club and I always dreamed of playing in England. It is an opportunity for me to do that and I am very happy to join Brentford. The stadiums are full of people and the games are hard but I think it is the best football in the world. It is good for my career to have joined Brentford. It is good for me that there are lots of young players here. It will help me to fit in with all the younger guys here.”
