Brentford Women proceed to the second round of the Capital Cup after a 2-0 victory over Hammersmith on Sunday.
The Bees put on an impressive second half display to comfortably cruise past Hammersmith in the opening round of the Capital Cup. Nikki Woods scored her second goal in two games to put Brentford ahead with a superb strike before Lucy Bolitho tucked away her first for the club ensuring the win.
Karleigh Osborne made just three changes to the side which started against Dulwich Hamlet Reserves last week with Kiera Ferns, Ellen Wardlaw and Lucy Bolitho all introduced to the side.
It took the Bees a while to get started with Hammersmith enjoying large spells of possession in the opening minutes of the game.
Nikki Woods, who has been in brilliant form for Brentford began to grow into the game and looked a real threat on the right flank.
The winger nearly found an opener for the Bees after beating two Hammersmith defenders on the right side of the box and delivering a cross which deflected off the opposition defender, with the ball going inches wide of the post.
Woods came close again on the half hour mark after pouncing on a loose pass from the Hammersmith keeper but her follow-up effort went just wide of the post.
The home side had a great chance to make it 1-0 just before the half-time whistle was blown after their forward was played through in behind the Brentford defence.
Evie Witek, who was making her second start for the first team, made an excellent save to keep the score line level.
The beginning of the second half proved to be similar to the first, with neither side able to stamp their authority on the game.
The Bees did eventually get themselves in front on 67 minutes when Woods dribbled with the ball to the edge of the Hammersmith box before unleashing a powerful strike which clipped the bar before finding the back of the net.
Brentford doubled their lead moments later through Bolitho, who scored her first goal since arriving at the club in the summer.
The striker latched onto a loose pass before making her way into the box and confidently slotting the ball past the keeper.
The visitors saw a lot of the ball in the remaining 20 minutes of the game as the side comfortably saw out their lead, securing their place in the hat for the second round of the Capital Cup.
