Marcello Trotta said Brentford winning games was more important than his personal goal tally.
The striker, on loan from Fulham, hit his tenth of the season as The Bees beat Bristol City in a Sky Bet League One match on Tuesday night.
Marcello slotted home an Alan Judge pass to make it 3-1 and seal the win.
Brentford had gone ahead thanks to an Aden Flint own goal but City levelled.
Alan Judge put them back in front and then set up Marcello as Brentford ran riot for a period.
They continued to dominate but could not add to their tally in the second half.
Marcello, speaking to Bees Player: Match Day Live after the win, said it was very easy to play at the moment and Brentford Manager Mark Warburton had given the players confidence.
The striker has scored six goals in his last eight games, including in the last five home games, but said winning games was more important.
The goal came just days after he scored from the penalty spot – his first Brentford spot kick since he missed one on the final day of last season against Doncaster Rovers that, if it had been scored, would have sent The Bees up – in a win over Gillingham
“The team is on form,” he said.
“It is easy for us to play.
“I feel well and it is good to score every week.
“I feel great playing every few days.
“I can help the team to win games and that is the main thing.
“The manager has given everyone confidence.
“On Friday it was a big message to me and everyone.
“The penalty went in and everyone was happy.
“I am happy tonight.
“A few times I could have retained the ball a little better but that will come with my development.
“The main thing for me is to help the team as much as I can without the ball.
“That will make the job easier for them.”
Club Captain Kevin O’Connor said he was also enjoying his role in the team.
Kevin came back in to the line-up in the centre of defence due to an injury to Harlee Dean and The Bees have won three and drawn one of his four games, conceding just three goals.
He said he let others judge his performance but he was pleased Brentford’s run of form – unbeaten in 17 Sky Bet League One matches, winning 15 of them – had continued with him in the team and he liked playing with Tony Craig.
“I have had four games in a row, a couple of them on heavy pitches, and I feel stronger and stronger,” said Kevin, also speaking to Bees Player: Match Day Live.
“I am really enjoying it.
“I am glad I have come in and the team have carried on performing.
“I think I am doing OK.
“I let others judge me.
“I try to do a job.
“If the team win I am happy.
“I feel I am still learning the position, I haven’t played too many games there.
“It is a pleasure to play alongside Tony and the others out there.”
The match was played on a heavy pitch and any rain on Tuesday afternoon would have put it in doubt.
Kevin said Mark Warburton got everyone focussed to play the game and the playing surface was OK.
“The pitch wasn’t too bad,” he said.
“I thought it would be worse than it was.
“It held up well.
“The manager made sure everyone was on it yesterday, he spoke to a few that weren’t.
“We wanted it on; we got the points and carried on the run.”
Kevin said the return of injured players – Adam Forshaw, Sam Saunders and Harlee Dean – would give Manager Mark Warburton some interesting decisions.
“We have some quality players coming back,” he said.
“It will be interesting over the next couple of weeks.
“But that is only good for the team.
“Long may it continue.”
Some of those players may be available for the match away to Shrewsbury Town on Saturday, February 1.
The Bees are top of League One but Marcello said the players were not looking too far ahead.
“We have to focus on one game at a time,” he said.
“We can only think about Shrewsbury on Saturday and try and get a win.
“We can’t plan too far ahead.
“Winning games keeps us up the top, that is important.”
Marcello has been away with the Italian Under-21 squad in recent months for training camps.
He said his time at Brentford had got him international recognition and his loan, his second spell at Griffin Park, had been very good.
“It is a great experience for me,” he said.
“The fans have been great.
“They all show me support and that makes me feel welcome.
“That is very good.
“Brentford have helped me get back in the national team and I am very happy about that.
“I spoke to the manager and he said I needed to play.
“We are doing well and I am scoring goals.
“That has given me a chance.
“I am thankful to Brentford for that.”
Brentford Assistant Manager David Weir also spoke to Bees Player: Match Day Live.
He said Brentford played well on a difficult pitch and handled conditions well.
“It was a difficult pitch,” said David.
“It was always going to be with the rain and having played on Friday.
“It wasn’t conducive to playing a lot of great football but we tried our best and in spells we did play well.
“We handled it well.
“Preparing for the match is part of the process.
“We were clear we had to prepare as if it would be on and the boys were mentally strong.
“The performance showed that.
“Part of being successful is not being distracted.”
David said the own goal gave The Bees a boost and they conceded an equaliser when Jake Bidwell, who crossed for the first goal, got caught up the pitch trying to attack.
Karleigh Osborne moved in to the space and smashed home from 20 yards.
David said The Bees were “too open” but for the right reasons and praised Alan Judge after he scored the second.
He added Marcello Trotta has responded well to the challenge for his place in the team from Will Grigg and Chuba Akpom.
“The own goal was a nice boost,” said David.
“That is three or four games in a row Jake has been involved in a goal and he deserved that, he works very hard.
“They challenged us but we came up with the right answer.
“We advance too quickly for their goal, we were too open.
“But it was for the right reasons, we want to score goals.
“It was a great finish and you have to say ‘fair play’ and react in the right manner.
“Alan Judge works on his shooting every day.
“It was a great for him, he needed a goal, he has gone close lots of times.
“Marcello has confidence and is scoring goals.
“He is banging them in.
“He has Chuba Akpom and Will Grigg pushing him and he knows he needs to keep his level high.
“Marcello has responded in the right manner.”
David also added words of praise for Kevin O’Connor.
“Kevin O’Connor was very good and he was very good on Friday too,” he said.
“He has been described as old but he has a lot of football left in him and it is great that we can call on him and bring him in.
“He adds to what we already have.
“Kevin is a straightforward guy, he always has an opinion when we have meetings and he is well respected.
“He has experience here.
“When he speaks people listen and his performances on the pitch add to that.”
Brentford are currently two points ahead of Leyton Orient and four ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers with other teams further back.
David said the only focus was on Brentford.
“I don’t think anybody will crack,” he said.
“We need to focus on ourselves.
“We just want to work in the manner we are and keep doing what we are doing.
“If we carry on being positive we will be in a good position at the end of the season.”
