Youth Team defender Seth Owens said it meant a lot to him and his teammates to secure the three points against Millwall.
The Bees beat The Lions 2-1 in their opening Under-18 Professional Development League Two South game of the season at Jersey Road on Saturday.
Tom Field put The Bees ahead from the spot after Joshua Bohui had been fouled before Ebere Eze levelled matters early on in the second-half with a fine solo goal.
It was Seth who scored the game’s decisive goal steering home Jeremiah Kamanzi’s corner with 13 minutes to go.
Speaking to Bees Player after the game Seth said he thought The Bees were worth their win and he was delighted to have got himself on the scoresheet.
“I thought we played well,” said Seth.
“We started off a bit slowly but we got up to the game and played well.
“At the start we could have played quicker.
“The defence sat off a bit too much and let them come at us.
“At half-time we talked about it and re-grouped.
“We got into the game.
“We pressed and won the ball back and they couldn’t really handle our press.
“That was what helped us win the ball back high up the pitch.
“It is easier to win the ball up the pitch and then it is a quicker way to score.
“It was a great ball in by Jeremiah.
“I got my head on it and I aimed for the corner and I hit it.
“We have been working on getting on the end of set pieces in training.
“Millwall are a big enemy for us and we wanted to get back in front.
“Scoring the goal meant a lot to us.”
Seth featured for The Bees Youth Team last season as an Under-16 making five appearances including two in Brentford’s FA Youth Cup run.
Now he is an Under-18 he said there is more pressure playing on him in the Youth Team as he knows he needs to perform.
He said he has been helped in making the adjustment to the Youth Team by some of the more experienced members of the squad and he appreciates their work.
“Tom Field and Gradi Milenge were very helpful,” said Seth.
“Coming into the Youth Team has been a big change and they have been great helping me through it.
“There is a lot of pressure but you have got to step up to it and deal with it.”
Seth was another of the Youth Team squad to travel to Northern Ireland for the Dale Farm Milk Cup in July.
He feels that extra preparation for the Milk Cup helped them to see where they are as a team and gave them confidence going into the league campaign.
Seth said that the win over Millwall had helped to top up that confidence and they were looking forward to next Saturday’s trip to Barnsley.
“The Milk Cup was a good experience for us as we could see where we are as a team and what we needed to improve on to help us through the rest of the season,” said Seth.
“It was a great start today and we have to carry that on to the end of the season.
“The win gives us massive confidence especially against a team like Millwall.
“It is good because it gets us in the zone and gets us mentally prepared for the game.
“We are buzzing to get back out and carry on where we left off.”
